sideeffect of playing a lot of Elite in VR - my eyesight improved!!!!

So I have been short sighted since I had to test my eyes for the driver license and turned out I needed glasses to drive. (that was like 30 years ago)

Now I refused to use them for anything else and I never cared that I see things at a distance less sharp... occasionally I don't greet people I know caus ei cant recognize faces at a distance ;)
Stopped using them to drive a long time ago as well...

So now I played over 400 hours in Elite with the Rift as well not using any glasses.

I realized a few weeks back that occasionally my eyesight was way better than it used to.
We watch movies on a 1080p beamer on the complete wall in the living room. Its probably a 6m by 2.5 m roughly image. but we sit far away.

believe it or not but since a week or so I see the individual pixels across the room! I am like eagle eyes now! And I can read street signs while driving from far away!?!

Anyone else noticed something like this?!?!

Seeing the pixes on the wall sucks though - I need a 4K beamer!! But man I feel like spiederman or something :D

hehe I had been suspicious about that and thought it might be the age related thing. BUT I can see perfectly fine close up! No need for reading glasses whatsoever...

VR is great for old folk. We don't need glasses to use it, and we don't have any of that pesky sand in our ears to contradict the information from our own eyes.

My optometrist mentioned this as my eyesight has improved in two previous visits. He stated this is not unusual when we get older and is due to the tissues of the eye weakening causing the eye to change shape. Since we all age at different rates , it would seem fair to assume, we will all experience the phenomena to different and varying degrees.

Your resistance to wearing glasses has likely strengthened your eyes, as well, through straining to focus at distance. It would seem fair to assume that spending a lot of time in VR (focuses to infinity) that there might be some causal relationship due to the amount of exercise your eyes are getting.
