Community Event / Creation Sidewinder Modeled in Maya

Hi all,

I recently finished a project in which I modeled the Sidewinder in Maya. I did this project for my own enjoyment and to practice, and I thought I would share it with you. I am including one of the render images here and a link below to the photo album where you can check out several detail renders of different parts.

I welcome any comments or feedback, keeping in mind that I am aware of a few things:
- The reflectivity of the paint needs a little work as to how it is reflecting the star field. It looks a bit more like dust in some cases than reflected stars
- The ship is shown in space but the engine mount is empty
- I did take a few liberties with the model so it is not an exact representation of the ship in game

Your model looks great! The only thing I would suggest is to work on the texturing a bit. Maybe add some dirty spec maps to give it a used look and also to make various areas have different specular levels. Maybe the blue paint could be shinier than the black areas. Also, some fine detail areas in the texturing would really make it more interesting... things like the text labels that you find on the Sidewinder in-game for example. The maneuvering thrusters could also use a self illuminating map to make them look like they are glowing. Again, great model!
 
Like hawkjon said, it's great work it just needs a little more detail to it. Without a doubt its far better than I could do, and you really seemed to put some time in it. Nice work :)
 
Thanks for the comments. I'm with you in regards to the texturing. So far I'm just using some built in shaders. Right now I'm working on sorting out the UV mapping and making some more interesting textures. I'll post some updated pictures when that's done.
