Newcomer / Intro Sidewinder to Hauler

Hi there, I have a sidewinder, sold my free eagle, done a couple of trade runs and missions and have around 55k credits now. I also bought a docking computer and replaced the basic discovery scanner with it, as there appeared to be no spare slots.

I want a hauler which I think is around 53k.

I know I need a few more credits to ensure I have enough money initially to buy some resources to trade but that aside, if I buy a hauler with my 53k, does it come equipped with anything, or would I need to also rebuy all the appropriate equipment I need? For example, do I need to buy another docking computer, or can I transfer the one from my sidewinder to the hauler, and if so, is that automatically done?

Thanks in advance.

If you sell everything you bought in the sidewinder before you get rid of the ship you have the option to buy it back for the same price you initially bought it.

The stock hauler comes with everything loaned. Same as the sidewinder. I would suggest saving up a little bit more in order to upgrade it, especially if you are planning on hauling cargo, and also have enough to replace it should you go boom.

The Hauler comes with basic equipment like the Sidey and you get a small amount back if you trade in your sidey. One thing you need to keep in mind is insurance costs, for all ships other than the Sidey you need to keep enough credits in your account to pay the insurance if you get destroyed. If you don't have enough credits you loose your ship, credits and end up back in your Sidey!

I am planning to buy a Hauler and will wait until I have about 100K. You will need the spare cash for insurance as already stated, but also to upgrade the cargo space and enough cash to buy some goods to trade.

I gambled. Traded in my Sidey for the Hauler. Left me with just under 10K in my balance. A couple runs tonight and it's paid for itself! Now I plan to save a nice bankroll for a Lakon in the couple of weeks to come.

Hi,

I got a Hauler as soon as I could. Comes kitted out in a similar way as the Sidey except you can now carry 8 cargo and can jump further. Was a no brainer for me as i immediately get access to better hauling missions that pay more.

Just keep about 3k for insurance then upgrade when you can.

Invest in the Adder its better and has more turret points, Two small, one medium. Can have more cargo than hauler and more shields and armour. Still reasonable price 70-80k depending

I exchanged the Sidewinder for the Hauler pretty quick as well. Get two 8 slot storage compartments, than you can haul 16 instead of 4 on the Sidewinder. Needs an upgraded jump drive as well, because it doesn't go very far fully loaded.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably take a risk and not wait until I get 100k but perhaps 60-70k or something like that and do a few missions so I don't need to buy any goods.

Btw, do you know if the Hauler has any extra slots for a docking computer? As I said, I had to swap by basic discovery scanner out for a docking computer but would naturally like both. And yes, I do want a d-computer!

I removed the scanner for a docking computer today. Works really good. Some difficult landing pads for me to manual it. But my hauler is happy. I also have flown 8 hauling missions with no shields on the ship. Nothing has happened to me yet, just seem quicker and opens the slot for other goodies to put in. :)

This was my upgrade path:

Sidewinder - 10t cargo space (no shields)
Hauler - 20t cargo space (no shields)
Lakon Type 6 100t cargo space (systems were all A class)
Lakon Type 9 400t cargo space (my current ship, systems are A and B class)

Its risky running without shields, but the extra cargo space means extra profit. And the Hauler insurance is cheap to purchase again. I was killed about 5 times before making enough for the Type 6. It did not take long either, may around 25 hours?

I never went with the Adder as it was not in game at the time and I was already in a Type 6 when it was introduced, so I cannot comment on that ship. I also ran with no weapons to maximize range (no shields... no guns...). I also only hauled and took delivery missions. No combat was done. Still have the Eagle, but must be about 300ly away :)

I'm running my Hauler without shields. The extra cargo space opened the door for me. More delivery missions from certain factions offering bigger payouts. Building the trust on the missions has really paid off so far.

Exactly the reason why. You can now choose those larger haul missions! PROFIT!!!

Is there any way to have a discovery scanner and docking computer in either a swipe wonder or hauler, whilst maintaining thr cargo space?

Just curious why you didn't get a Cobra in between the Hauler and Type 6 - has room for 60T cargo (no shields) - and has decent jump range . . . ? - means you can start taking those ~180K credit missions that ask for ~ 40T cargo much sooner . . .
