Sidewinder Vs Anaconda

I'd like to know if it is still possible to take on those big ticket assassinations in a sidey. Also are the missions still bugged?

I've been taking it easy since launch, not playing too much while the game is fleshed out a bit. So my goals were to make a million space bucks in a sidey and complete one of those missions before starting to play 'properly'. My sidey is now fully tricked out, I've got my million space bucks but should I bother with the mission? I tried it a few times earlier in a weaker(!) sidey. One death by plasma bolt face plant, several narrow escapes and a couple of times I managed to scratch the hull but I gather it has got harder since ~1.0/1.1.

I suspect it will get harder still after 1.3 so now would be the time to try again but if the missions are still bugged . . .

The missions can still get bugged if you get the alt-mission branch before getting told the location of the original target. But you can get around that by shooting the ship trying to give you the alt-mission before they finish talking to you.

Well the short answer is "Its probably not a good idea'

The more complicated answer is, maybe. You can avoid a lot of the 'conda's damage in a small fast ship that's set up for the job but will need to be highly upgraded. I've done it in both Viper and Eagle fairly early in my career (Still rated novice!) presumably you could target a subsystem (Power plants on condas very vulnerable. It's on the bottom!)and use the boosting in and out or range to regen shields tactic

And yes the missions can still bug when they branch leaving it impossible to finish.

:D

Hrrmm the alt mission bug sounds really annoying but maybe I'll give it a go. I'll rearrange the outfitting a bit for this job I think. 1 fixed beam and 1 fixed rail gun have been serving me well in USS encounters right up to drop ships. Maybe I'll switch for a gimballed laser so I can evade more and hope the rail gun has enough ammo to finish the job if I can get the shield down.

Not sure whether to fit the internals for toughness or agility.

It's worth pointing out that you only need to worry about the mission branch up until you find the guy that tells you which system the target is in. Once you have that, just ignore the mission branching, and the mission still progresses just fine.

Heck, once the mission branch guy said nothing to me at all... and I mean he said a completely empty string, and it updated my mission to an empty box. Good thing I was already in the system with my target :D
