Sightseeing Is it me or a bug?

How buggy is this game? Not saying this game is very buggy but I want to know if there are lots of bugs? Yesterday I made my first long distance run for a sightseeing tour when I arrived I got sent to a non landable planet. As i already had experienced this before I thought I would find a visitor beacon in the system but there wasn't one. Was there something else I should have done? The mission marker in the system map also said the planet was the mission.

I abandoned the mission and went to bed as I had wasted lots of time. I learned how to effectively fuel scoop so it was not all a waste. But it makes me now very wary of going far far away from my home system.

There almost certainly was a beacon. What sort of Discovery Scanner do you have? If it isn't the Advanced one then you may need to honk regularly to update the system data. That or scan the Nav beacon, which in theory should give you all the system data.

You probably missed something, haven't ever been sent to the wrong planet yet myself (doesn't mean that there couldn't be a bug though)
Just in case: have you scanned the system/planet and checked the navigation panel on the leftside of the cockpit?

Edit: ninja'd by GreyAreaUK... again! Shouldn't you be working? :p

Usually shows the planet as the target until you get within 1000Ly - did you go to the planet? Mission description should give the what you are actually aiming for ('messages' tab sadly is more vague). Sounds more like operator error than game error this time. Post a pic of your Nav panel when near the planet and another of the mission description might prompt more ideas!

I've had this a couple of times and it was always there in the end :) the mission icon in the nav panel normally directs you to the correct planet even if unexplored then when you get close enough it finally appears in the nav panel.

I do normally scan the planet if it's unexplored so i'd try that as well!

Aha! I have a basic scanner. Do I need the most advanced one? I have the money for it but it seems to outmax my power. What is honking? How do I honk? I thought scanning was done automatically but I'm now sure it was me and not a bug.

How did you guys find this all out? The first person to have played this game must has gotten so lost  This is really the first game where I am constantly searching on my computer what to do next. :D Not complaining more PS4 games should be so deep as this one

Yep I went to the planet several times aimed at the target and waited minutes at the point where your ship doesn't go further anymore. Opened the system map a few times to look for the mission icon but the mission icon was always on the planet. Looked frequently at my target panel to see if there was a visitor bacon in the system.

'Honking' is the term used to describe triggering your discovery scanner. It makes a sort of bipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipbipHOOOONK! noise.

Each type of Discovery Scanner (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced) has a different range. The basic one has a very short range, so you'll only find stuff close to you. Move around the system a bit and honk again and you may well find more stuff. The Advanced Scanner has an 'infinite' range, which really just means you'll find all planets/stations/belts in the system.

Oh - go onto your Fire Groups panel (on the right hand panel) and make sure your Discovery Scanner is in a fire group. If it isn't then it'll never be used. I tend to put scanners into their own fire group, separate from weapons.

The alternative to honking is to find the Nav beacon. They tend to be very close to the star you jump in to and will show on your Nav panel. Target it like you would a station, drop into real space close to it, target it again and your ship will be given the data for the system.

Just a foot note here ... beware as many sips gather, at times, around beacons and you don't know much about them. Just be aware ...

*nod* yes, good advice. Get in, scan, and get gone again as fast as you can. Just in case. And 'Compromised Nav Beacons' are basically pirate hot-spots.

I'll honk instead. I've set my scanner to a fire group. :D

Is it just me or are console controller not so well suited for this game. Seems like I don't have enough buttons to manage all that stuff well.

I dunno, I kind of like it. I like how you can change fire groups by touching the top corners of the touch pad.

I think they've actually done a remarkably good job assigning functions on the DS4

I was looking at a tutorial about pilot's you can hire and noticed there is a third panel just below the dashboard to instruct them. There is no button for a third panel on the controller or am I missing something?

Er...I think it's Square+Down on the D-Pad? I might have that wrong, going from memory and haven't needed it yet.

At least you didn't make the mistake I did and land on the planet...that required a permit...with an illegal passenger....:D

You had accepted multiple passenger missions or the planet was not part of the mission? I have been transporting illegal passengers a lot. Never had problems with them.
