Newcomer / Intro Sightseeing Tour Bug?

Took a sightseeing adventure mission that was supposed to go through the Ringed Garden World and HIP 111755 Visitor Beacon. Travelled to the Ringed Garden World, following the directions provided, but the visitor beacon was nowhere to be found, though I circumvented the planet in question.

Looked online to find that apparently this was an older bug that could be worked around by visiting all Earth-like planets in the system, closing to within a certain distance, so I did so - and still no dice.

Does this bug still exist, or am I just missing something simple? Or is there a work-around folks who've been at this a minute know that they could share? I'm ready to cut sling on this mission if its just bugged.

E-D Odyssey is installed on my PC.

Thanks in advance.

Two separate beacons perhaps, in two different places? And you did reset the filter on the left hand navigation panel so you can see the beacons in the Nav-list?
1. Ringed Garden World
2. HIP 111755 Visitor beacon
You should be able to see it, lock on to it and then drop out of supercruise at it like you do at stations.
Then you need to target it and scan it, this should trigger mission success (either for one or for two separate beacons).

I did reset the filters, but I'll try it again. The rich cat sent me a message to go to the planet itself, which doesn't really make sense - as don't think those missions generally do that - and there was no location identified other than the planet itself. Figured he'd then provide follow-on instructions, but no dice.

Unless he told you to land (using Horizon, not Odyssey) at a planet without an atmosphere and get something particular, then I think it's just flavor text. You can't land at atmospheric worlds, only the one's without.
It depends what the text said specifically though. It should be a specific location, either a station, a port, outpost, settlement or a beacon.
I've never experienced anyone telling me to orbit a planet thus far, but then again perhaps some missions have changed.

Look for 'specifics' in the message.

Targeted it, and nearly rammed it.
It looked back at me, but said nothing.
When in normal-space, you need to target the white beacon (yet) again and wait (5-10 seconds, like when you scan a NAV-beacon at stars for information) for your ship scanner to analyze it to discover the data from the beacon. You should then get a message in your inbox with the text from the Beacon. unless you get a message containing the story from the tourist beacon then you have not locked it correctly.

And only then will the mission be triggered properly.

For an example please see here at 4:14:

Yeah, locked it, but it never scanned like that, nor did I get a message.
May have just been a bugged mission - I'll try another like it.

Okay, so tried another mission with an NPC passenger ... I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, but either I'm missing something really simple, or this type of mission is just bugged.
Transporting an NPC to a planet, but via way of a beacon. Scan the beacon, and no problem - NPC tells me to scan the planet next to it. Target the planet and head to it, being pulled out of FSD - nothing from the NPC. Here's a video:

Now what - another bug, or am I missing something?

You are missing the fact that you were told to go to the next destination by your passenger (i.e. go to system LP 339-7 and then find the tourist beacon in there for "Wildlife ..."):

When you later looked at the mission info in your panel it showed you where to go next:

So you just need to pay attention to how these sequential missions link together.
