Sign up for a Local Faction.

I play this game mainly to take part in the BGS.
For nearly 1 1/2 year i have supported a local NPC faction in an remote system, and helped them to expand, protect and fought their wars.
But i always felt there is something that is missing, something that tells me that i actually work for the local faction and that is just not in my imagination.
I wish i could sign up for a local faction so i could se that i work for them and belong to them.

Signing up could just be some visual reference in game but it could also have some benefits like discounts, bonus rewards etc when doing business with the faction and drawback could be that you get lesser payouts, higher price on ships etc when dealing with other factions. Just as an example.

I can respect the want for feeling like you belong somewhere.

As long as there's no additional benefit other than player feeling -- I can certainly endorse this.

I would wholeheartedly support greater involvement in minor factions.

Consider it an optional rank above "Allied", for which you can only select one minor faction. From this you could progress and gain/earn influence which you could spend on either increasing your reputation or position (perminant weight), or on leverage on faction decisions (cf. "votes").

Essentially any minor faction could work like a player-owned-faction (or rather replace them). But it requires a significant investment in the BGC to give enough flesh on the bones.

I support this. When bounty hunting, I think there should be an option to join the system security forces after you assist them take a few wanted ships out. And, once you join them, you'd get a contact on who they're targeting, even if out of your own ships range.

I suggested in another thread that Players should be able to found their own Factions in game when they became triple Elite & that would be my ideal solution. However, with regard to 'signing up' for Factions I like the idea & perhaps an approach would be that if a CMDR has performed a certain amount of work for it then they can take ownership of it which also causes it to have an in game 'Squadron'/Player Group attached to it that other Players can join if they wish. If the Faction isn't maintained it drops to 1% and if it stays there for a set period of time the ownership is lost & Squadron/Player Group automatically deleted.
