Signal Sources 8,000 Ly from Sol?

Hi,

I've been away for a long time, but since coming back to the game (away since just after v1.3, and came back just after v2.1) I have been slowly wending my way back to inhabited space.

After weeks of finding nothing but stars, planets, moons, and asteroids, I have just stumbled across several signal sources, which became "Degraded emissions detected [Threat 0]", which then became a shredded ship and a canister of "Small Data Survey Cache".
I found 2 in one system, then 1 in a second system...both systems near to each other and about 8,000 Ly from Sol.

Is this normal? Have updated that I missed started spawning signal sources that far from Sol? Or is this something I should investigate a little more in detail?
I've been hopping through the nearest systems to see if I can find more - so far just those two systems appear to have signal sources...

Yes, it is normal :(

First time I saw this, I thought "WOW, it must be something special...". But no, there is nothing special in the wast space of the Galaxy :(

Maybe, just maybe, those USS 10.000 LYs from bubble are placeholders for something what will be implemented later, but personally, I do not believe it.

Wow - then I'm really surprised I haven't seen any up until now. I've been through over a thousand systems since I came back to the game, and these are the first ones I've seen...so I am thinking that maybe I've just drifted "within range" of inhabited space where the signal sources start happening.

I guess I can ditch the cannisters then, the last thing I want is to get shot up for smuggling before I get to sell my data!!

Yes, there is some limit of distance from bubble. When I was travelling to Jaques, I spotted those USS somewhere between 7.000 -10.000 LYs (approximately). When I was let's say 15.000 LYs from bubble, I never saw any USS.

P.S. And yes, I also ejected those canisters :)

x distance from sol u wont find any signal sourc3es in the jaques system

i believe the x most distant from sol that has been reported to date is 12000ly or so for data caches

Okay - well thanks for the info! That'll save me hours of trying to investigate where the USS are coming from... :)

Yup, normal.

USS used to spawn more frequently outside the bubble, but this wasn't too immersive having little outposts and stuff 20,000+ly away from habited space. Unfortunately it got replaced with a whole lot of not much, other than the occasional degraded thing you found with small/large exploration caches :/

I'd be wary of bringing them back too. They are worth very little (I always thought they'd make more sense adding to your exploration rank rather than just giving you a few credits) and aren't worth the added risk of being interdicted on your way home by some wingnut NPC that has a thing for floppy disks in a cargo canister.
