Signal sources in deep space

Do you check these out? I never paid any attention to these as I figured there would be some sort of hazard involved. But on my last trip out I did check out a few and they were large data cache canisters. Didn't feel like taking on the cargo but it got me thinking...what have I been passing? Once you get a couple thousand light years away from the bubble, are signal sources worth checking out or should I just ignore them?

If it is threat 0 Degraded Emissions (never seen any other type outside the bubble), ignore it (cue FDEV now putting some awesome discoveries in those :p).

I got excited several times during the early days of my exploration career. Then realised it was the same stuff all over the shop. Funny, if you go by POIs then by far the majority of the galaxy seems to have already been explored. ;)

When you're far from the bubble (<1K Ly, I'd say), those sources are either some floating escape pods or data caches. There's not point in scooping them up since you can only discard them or sell them to black markets when back in a station (and not for much, on top of that). They just end up impeding your jump range.

It has been chenged since a while, now there is a POI bubble around the bubble and the colonia.

away from colonia and more than 10kLY from sol they dry up. Ive been around the dryman sector ( just outside it as its permit locked) and 28k from both colonia and sol and nothing. Deep space is boring

Large data cache's are abotu 274,000 which seems pretty good to me (last time I sold one), escape pods aren't illegal salvage anymore (haven't been for a while) so you can sell them legally - work out for yourself whether you're selling the occupier into slavery in an imperial world or getting a reward for rescuing the pilot, but it's quite nice to rescue a few pilots from the black on your way home.

It seems reasonable that the threat indicator isn't 100% correct with what actually happens - clearly the pirates have been planning a cunning ambush, some "convoy dispersal patterns" threat 4 just have some T9s and a couple of small escort ships who don't bother you unless you attack them, presumably the size of the T9s throws it off.

Dropping in on them certainly adds some variety to the game, would be nice to get more things though I agree, hopefully some more variety and interconnectiveness will turn up at some point:)

Keep an eye out for Degraded Emissions (Threat 2). Those can have some interesting and valuable things inside (e.g. AI Relics) but you should expect to get shot at. Threat 0 can have some wrecks with private data beacons around the bubble with useful firmware and materials but out in the black a large data survey cache is the only valuable find (I sometimes pick up survey caches on the way home when I'm not worried about the loss of jump range: it's my way of making sure that some unfortunate explorer's last journey was not in vain).
