signal sources in the deep black.

hi. I am about 3500 ly out and on my home. I cut short my journey after accidentally piling into the ground on a high G took me to 30% hull (would have raged if I had blown up)

randomly there was a degraded signal source in a system . I didn't investigate as I just want to get back home however out of curiosity... are those deep space signals any different or will it just be a normal one in all likelihood?

thanks.

I think its the normal one - I think they (and other Human related stuff) are supposed to stop spawning at around that range - I think they start getting less common around 2-2.5K from the bubble from my experience but I'm far from a definitive source on this ;)

Degraded signal sources in deep space are likely to have either small or large survey caches, a semi-rare salvage cargo. Large ones can be sold for a decent amount of money (cargo-wise at least),

But it will draw the "tasty cargo" types so weigh carefully your need to pick it up vs the explo data you're carrying.
You've also got to consider the impact of cargo mass to you're jump range picking stuff up on any exploration into the black will decrease the max jump distance and increase the number of hops - I tend to ignore anything on my way out and only consider picking stuff up on the way back, that way your not nerfing your jump range the entire trip.

These days with Odyssey I assume you also risk your bio data $$$ to the "tasty cargo" types as well (although I don't know this from experience)
