signs lay on the floor

how do u get signs, that dont attach to anything like a wall, to stand upright amd not flat against the ground. I put "align to surface" on and off amd neither works. I'm out of ideas.

The simple way is to initially place the sign anywhere, then hit X to bring up Advanced Move. Hit X again to rotate the sign the way you want it, the X again to drag the sign to the position you want it.

You can also use F1 to snap to position (or enable the toggle switch in the corner)
