Signs of things to come

I thought it might be fun to collect things that are already in-game but don't seem to serve any function yet and that are possibly signs of things to come. I'm thinking of physical things, not mentions like "this ship's cargo bay is large enough for a sidewinder" or "this is a passenger transport vessel".
So, here comes my (very short!) list of things I wondered about:

- What is "remlok" producing? When entering a station, you get billboards of different companies, Saul-Kruger, Zorgon-Peterson and so on. Known names. But "remlok"?
- What is the tablet computer between your legs good for? When looking down, there always seems to be some Ipad-like device, what will it be able to do?
- Why is the Black Market part of the contacts tab and is the click on "Black Market" not getting you directly to the market, but a sub-menu where you have to click "I want to sell illegal goods"? This hints at that there is more planned than just selling (and buying!) from the Black Market, otherwise it could directly take you to the market. Also the fact that the right-hand statistics panel lists your "black market network"...

Any more things? I'm sure there are a lot I didn't think of!

One of the Dev's mentioned the other day that in a possible future update, space cops/authorities might tag your entire hold of illegal cargo as 'unsellable' or something to this effect instead of handing out a hefty, on-the-spot fine, in which case this would open up on the Black Market the need for a cargo 'cleaning' service!. So instead of a Black Market to buy & sell items, this could very well open up services that could also be hired/bought.

Imagine if these black-market 'services' were expanded upon, such as, buying a one time, use only, computer system that is linked to seller's network system that allows the player to shut down for 5-secs, another players /npc Engine/ Shields but only in the system it was bought in ... useful for any assassination missions etc etc the list of possibilities is endless for FD.

*Update* Since service sellers on the black-market are a devious, money grabbing bunch, they could ALSO sell a scrambling device against the hacking computer, again, use once only, that nullifies the hacking computer system which also, can only be used in that particular system where it was bought. Of course these services don't come cheap. But at least from the game's perspective, it's a fair balance of introducing a service such as this.

Remlok is the emergency face/head covering that deploys automaticlly if you get exposed to the vacuum of space.
All you need to do to experience it is have your canopy shot out.....it is already in game.

The black market isn't a market like you'd find in a village square.
It's not somewhere that all the criminals with illegal items to buy and sell can set up their stalls and have the shady people come and browse them.
The black market isn't a market.
It's not somewhere you can go and look at what's for sale and offer your goods for sale.
It's usually a one to one contact who knows someone who might be interested in the things you have to sell assuming the price is right.

Hadn't noticed that when I was shot down the last time... nice to see how things come together in this game!
Looking forward to any expansions of the Black Market functions.

Yeah, the first time my canopy was shot out, I was 'OH GOD I'M GOING TO DIE!'
Then I realized I had an emergency suit on and I was alive. Oh good I'm going to live!
Then I saw how much oxygen I had left. 'OH GOD I'M GOING TO DIE!'

My favourite is the bad spelling in gallnet. It must mean something, a multi million pound company would use a spell checker would they not?

Is it written by aliens. or is it indicative of the quality control at FD

Outposts are an obvious, in future they might be up and downgraded depending on the game world to basic outposts right up to the most advanced and largest stations

You are missing the point. Just like climate change has raised the sea levels, so the Earth's continental borders look different, the language has evolved, and so spellings have changed.:D

And if you believe that, you will believe anything.

On a slightly remlock related tangent...it'd be nice to see escape pods make a comeback. Not sure how it'd work for players but for NPCs it'd be good.

AHHH
I see it now. you are correct.

Off thread

I have a friend who would say ( well he did) when you used a word " that is from the Latin word..... " After several years of not hitting him I once asked where does the Latin word for that word come from. He looked shocked and does not do it anymore

I think he was wondering more why you have to click through to another menu when there's only one thing in it
