Silent Running

Hi CMDR's,
Do you have macro's or some other way to switch on and off modules? Do you use Voice Command type software ? I would like to be able to hit 1 button and have my choice of modules switched off or on, rather then go to the modules screen and click them off one at a time. Thanks !

I use Voice Attack (Astra voice pack). It has a voice commands "silent running off" and "silent running on".

A D when you say "silent running off" can you set up Voice Attack to switch off everything except say weapons, thruster and sensors and deploy a heat sink with one command ? Visual Basic ?

Hi O'moylan.

The short answer is I honestly don't know as I haven't opened the VA command editor to see what actions the "silent running" voice command is going through.

The long answer is VA with the HCS voice pack pretty much lets you do whatever you can do manually in the game. VA also let's you write your own commands and macros and I have written some simple ones fairly easily. I'll have a look at the "silent running" macro and post back here. In the meantime, take a look at the VA online manual as describes the basic and advanced features quite well.

As said above Silent Running is allready a hotkey.
All other modules can be shut off and on with macros.
The downside is..You will see the headmovement when the right panel is opened.
Also you need to set a couple of varcounters. Else it will all go sour very quickly.
Maybe try KICS (I beleive its named)
Goodluck cmdr.

Seems the HCS Voice pack for VA uses the "slient running" macro to press a hotkey which closes the ship's heat vents in game. Not ground breaking news sorry, but the VA command editor will let you edit that macro to add other tasks to the same command, if you know what you want to do and have the VA skills. For example, it would be quite easy to add the key press for deploying a heat sink at the same time. [smile]

EDIT - 'KICS' is a free voice pack for VA, but I don't think it being developed anymore. You can still find copies on the net and it's not bad. Personally, I'd would recommend one of the HCS voice packs if you are happy to pay a few bucks because they are professionally written and updated when ED adds new features (e.g. the pack was recently updated for multi-crew and fighter commands).

i utilize power priorities for that, using the cargo hatch to shut off all moduls not needed during silent running, including the cago hatch.

Goemon is that through Voice Attack. It turns off all modules that are set to say 3 or am I missing something ? I don't understand the link to the cargo hatch. I appreciate these trade secrets. o7

Set power priorities so when you deploy weapons, things you do not need in combat are turned off so the things you do need get power.

There is no way currently of turning off modules automatically for silent running unless you want to do a AutoHotKey and VA combo. The AutoHotKey forums may help you more.

In combat situations you may faster with a hotkey.
And like others said, power priorities are the best option to disable multiple modules.

no voice attack. as the cargo hatch needs a lot of power, you'll have power priorities 1 and 2 for everything you want during silent running, power priority 3 for cargo hatch and everything you want to turn off especially during silent running, and powerpriority 4 for everything you want to turn off during non-sr combat. this only works if power priorities 3+4+cargo hatch are pushing your power usage >100% of your powerplants output, while power priorities 3 runs below 100% power output without the cargo hatch turned on. so needs some fiddling with the concrete build at hand.

it's something nice to utilize, i have the same on ships with a lot of shieldboosters, to get shields faster back up after they went down (which is debateable, as the shields come up at 50% of a lower total MJ).
