[Suggestion] "Silent Space" option for muting 'outside' sounds
I've always been a fan of hard SF. One of the things I love most about films like 2001 is the eerie silent quality of space. As such I'd love to have the option to explore, fly, dock etc. without hearing 'outside' sounds, such as explosions, the engines of other ships etc. just the beeps of the controls and the reassuring voice of the ships computer.
We'd probably hear radio chatter in a station, klunks and thunks reverberating through the hull, growling thrumbling of the engines and various bits of machinery in the ship. One of the things I liked about the Beta was that feeling that your ship could probably fall apart at any moment!
I think that 'silent space' should definitely be a togglable option though, as explosion and engine sounds are useful for helping orient yourself in battle.
The music and ambient sound effects, e.g. in the galactic map etc. are amazing... Much Kudos to Jose Castro for his awesome work and the amount of attention to detail he put into every tiny thing, the different sounds for each module... As someone who works with synthesis and sound production myself, I'm continually impressed whenever I hear a new 'thing' in the game [up] I found the Meet The Team interview with him really interesting: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/8236-Meet-the-Team-10-Jose-Castro-(Sound-Designer)
Jose says: "We have a device in the spaceship that could potentially simulate an entire aerial battlefield (delivered via earplugs or bone conduction), but what it actually recreates, and how, is entirely up to us. The question is then really a matter of design: does the pilot-player need to hear explosions? Do we represent all the explosions or only those within a certain distance and radius from the player’s point of view? Should they sound airborne-like, etc."
Could that device be turned off in the systems panel?
