Silly question...

I decided to switch out my C4 plasma accelerator on my Anaconda to a gimballed C3 beam laser, since I discovered that my PA was simply too impractical to use effectively in most combat situations. A warning message showed up, indicating that "power management is required when hardpoints are active" -- no doubt because I'm using a couple of shield cell banks, which I need to disable and enable one at a time. However, what puzzles me is that directly below the power management warning, there was a second line of text -- "reduces weapon performance." What exactly does that mean?

Well I believe there is a connection between ship heat and weapon capacity, and having modals active on your ship heats it up. So having a shields on for example means that the ship will have a certain percentage heat generated which thus reduces weapon capacity.

Kind of what I was thinking. I was just wondering if there might be a correlation between weapon damage / efficiency and being near or at my power plant's output limit.
