General / Off-Topic Silverstone F1 GP

All i can say is... What a day that was!!! :D. Fabulous race, excellent result and the views from Village were brill.

Getting home afterwards though... What a nightmare. 4 hours from Hinton to Bsaingrad. Zzzz zzzz zzzz

That was my best Silverstone in twelve visits. As a fan of Hamilton since his GP2 year when he won both races (and a lot of support) in great style, it was something of a roller coaster ride. When I get some time I will see if I have a good picture that includes Village stand. We were in Becketts which was well worth the long walk from the main entrance.

I found the new engines a great improvement on the V8s. No need for ear protection, the ability to hear tyres screeching through the challenging corners, the whistle of the turbos. The old Red Bull running in the 50th year celebrations to be quite a dinosaur in comparison and the GP2 cars were positively vulgar. Personally, I always found the benefit of being at a race was the chance to smell the cars rather than be deafened by them.

Traffic was kinder heading the other way... under three hours from the Northampton park and ride site to Yorkshire, which is about as good as you get on an average Sunday.

I had mixed feelings about the engine sound at first but I grew to enjoy it exactly because we didn't have to wear plugs this time, and as you said, you get to hear everything in all its glory.

We had one guy who sang the national anthem himself 'cus they messed up the radio feed and he got a stirring round of applause for it!

Excellent day.

I think what this season has demonstrated is how cheated we've been throughout the years with teams favouring one driver to win the championship. Even Redbull has been guilty of this. I mean if Ferrari was in the position of Mercedes there wouldn't be wheel to wheel racing at the front.
