That's a genuinely easy answer for me: I prefer the newer species in all of these cases.
(Although, in the cases of the otters, the lemurs, the foxes and the ibex/dall sheep, I'd probably say I like both species equally).

No preference, no preference, no preference, dhole, sea lion, white ruffed lemur, small clawed otter, sun bear, African penguin, white rhino, fennec fox, no preference. I have pretty strong opinions on most of these choices, too.

1.-Cape Buffalo vs ~~Wild~~ Domestic Water Buffalo : Imo they should have been domestic and i refuse to see them as anything else. The fact that they are domestic makes them a power house, but the sad fact that they are our first not arctic asian ungulate also really boosts its value
2.- Spectacled Caiman vs Cuvier's Dwarf caiman : Its a draw for me here, just because of how perfect each of them are for different builds. Its great to have both a very small and a medium sized croc, lovely additions.
3.- Dall sheep vs Alpine Ibex : another draw, aggain these guys are completly equall in my mind (in a good way) and my preferances are mood based. Im just happy we got two goats :)
4.- Dingo vs Dhole : its my favorite animal in the game, super versatile, one of the best support animals in the game, borderline essential for well themed asian areas with the current roster as you can exclude them, but chances are they would improve the area. But credits where credit is due, dingos are still a neat animal and one if the internationally more common australian animals, so i dont fault them like many do
5.- Grey Seal vs Sea lion : Seals are cuter, Sea lions cooler, not a big difference in opinion
6.- Red-ruffed lemur vs White-ruffed lemur : completly equall in every way, besides the White one has a higher quality modell
7.- Asian small clawed otter vs Giant otter : literally no opinion, very differdnt in use, dont feel even remotly similar besides thst they are both from the same taxonomic group, which just shows how good the inclusion of the giant one really is
8.- Malayan Bear vs Formosan Black Bear : weird bear men are cool and all, but i like my fluffy moonbears
9.- King Penguin vs African Penguin : Just way more flexible in both realistic habitats and zoo budgets, but the king penguin is for me in a league with animals like the giant panda, where they might be kinda uncommon, but a very very cool high budget zoo animal. Both are pretty dope
10.- Wihte rhino vs Indian rhino : its german name is tank rhino, beautiful animal, much needed for the asian diversity while the african is not so much
11.- Artic fox vs Fennec Fox : The arctic just feels more versatile, while the fennec fox was more desperatly needed as its the only Northafrican animal rn, but both are pretty dope imo. I like my red fox and would still love them in the game, but glad these two came first.
12.- Fallow deer vs reindeer : A couple of peak perfection

1.-Cape Buffalo vs Wild Water Buffalo
2.- Spectacled Caiman vs Cuvier's Dwarf caiman
3.- Dall sheep vs Alpine Ibex
4.- Dingo vs Dhole
5.- Grey Seal vs Sea lion
6.- Red-ruffed lemur vs White-ruffed lemur
7.- Asian small clawed otter vs Giant otter
8.- Sun Bear vs Formosan Black Bear
9.- King Penguin vs African Penguin
10.- Wihte rhino vs Indian rhino
11.- Artic fox vs Fennec Fox
12.- Fallow deer vs reindeer

1.-Cape Buffalo vs Wild Water Buffalo: they look better. Also the African ones get lost among many other options to make Savannah habitats, while the Asian one is basically the only one of its kind for Asian habitats.

2.- Spectacled Caiman vs Cuvier's Dwarf caiman: This is the caiman I knew before playing the game.

3.- Dall sheep vs Alpine Ibex: more versatile and European. The enrichment items are better.

4.- Dingo vs Dhole. Difficult, I'd say I like more the dingo but use more the dhole because it's more versatile for different biomes.

5.- Grey Seal vs Sea lion. Very difficult, both are great animals.

6.- Red-ruffed lemur vs White-ruffed lemur: they look cooler and they were free!

7.- Asian small clawed otter vs Giant otter: more versatile and adorable (but I like the giants too).

8.- Malayan Bear Formosan Black Bear: more traditional bear and more versatile too.

9.- King Penguin vs African Penguin: more common and easier to use.

10.- White rhino vs Indian rhino: both are great, but I choose the white rhino because it's the first one that comes to my mind when thinking of rhinos. The Indian rhino is "the other" rhino.

11.- Artic fox vs Fennec Fox. I find it easier to build a desert house than an Arctic house.

12.- Fallow deer vs reindeer: both. As a Spaniard, I would say the deer, but since I live in Finland, reindeer are very dear to me. I can't choose.

That's easy choices:

1. none (didn't use them, don't intend to)
2. Spectacled Caiman (looks great!)
3 Dall sheep (Ibex is too stylised for my taste)
4. none (didn't use them, don't intend to)
5 both equal
6. Ringtailed Lemur
7. Asian small clawed otter (sooo cute!)
8. none (didn't use them, don't intend to)

I think in german it's more an "armor(ed) rhino", not a "tank rhino" - but who knows for shure? ;)
I don't believe they had tanks in ancient ages when first drawings where made by greeks and romans

1. Cape buffalo. The water buffalo should be the domestic species. It doesn't make it unusable but it loses points for that.
2. Can't believe I'm saying this, but spectacled caiman. Much easier to work with in terms of size. The dwarf caiman should have been an exhibit animal.
3. Dall sheep, because I haven't used the ibex yet.
4. Dhole. The dingo was a mistake.
5. Grey seal. I like sea lions better in real life, but the male model is too small and it ruins my suspension of disbelief.
6. Black-and-white ruffed lemur. Far more common in real zoos, and an animal I've worked with before.
7. Small-clawed otter. Vastly superior in terms of versatility.
8. Sun bear. Again, I've seen far more sun bears in my life than Asian black bears.
9. Tough choice, so no preference. I love both penguins.
10. Also a touch choice. The white rhino wins by a hair by virtue of being omnipresent in Australasian zoos, but the Indian rhino is fantastic.
11. Fennec fox. I don't like that the Arctic fox's summer coat is a 'colour variation'.
12. Fallow deer. Again, simply more versatile.

1. Wild Water Buffalo
2. Both.
3. Alpine Ibex
4. Dhole
5. Grey Seal
6. Red-ruffed lemur
7. Giant otter
8. Malayan Bear
9. African Penguin
10. Indian rhino
11. Artic fox
12. Fallow deer

1.-Cape Buffalo, wild water buffalo is a very odd choice because none are actually held in captivity in zoos anywhere.
2.- Cuvier's Dwarf caiman, a small crocodilian is better addition after having the saltwater and gharial, and adding another caiman afterwards feels like a wasted slot. Also the dwarf caiman has an albino variant whereas the spectacled does not.
3.- Dall sheep mainly because I'm biased because my local zoo had a herd of these for the longest time (although the last one died a few years ago).
4.- Dingo because we need more Australian animals. Although a marsupial would have been better, at least the dingo gives some Aussie representation.
5.- Sea lion, it's a classic zoo animal and one of the most common pinnipeds in captivity.
6.- Red-ruffed lemur again biased because that's what my local zoo has but no preference really.
7.- Giant otter for two reasons. One is we need more South American representation. The other is larger animals are generally better for this game gameplay wise. That being said the Asian small clawed otter is also a good pick because that's the species more common in zoos.
8.- Formosan Black Bear again biased because this is the species my local zoo used to have (not the Formosan subspecies specifically, but really Planet Zoo made a weird choice making this a Formosan black bear specifically and not leaving it a generic Asian black bear).
9.- King Penguin again biased because this is what my local zoo has.
10.- White rhino because rhinos are more iconic for African themed areas, although I'd have preferred black rhino over white.
11.- Fennec Fox again biased by what my local zoo has
12.- Reindeer again biased by what my local zoo has.

Then tell us why! Deliver slme choiced words to praise your chosen animals!
  • Dhole over Dingo because its one of my fav canids irl and it's a more unique species.
  • Sea Lion over Seal because they're more playful and I believe more common in U.S. zoos. Plus, I'd like the harbor seal better as a seal option -- they're cuter and I've seen them in the wild. No hate to the Grey Seal though.
  • White-Ruffed over Red-Ruffed Lemur for no real reason, just like the colors more.
  • Small-Clawed Otter over Giant because it's way more common, I've seen it in real life in the two zoos I've been to, it's a more classic otter, and I just love small habitat species.
  • Sun Bear over Black Bear because it's more common in US zoos and I resent having the Asiatic rather than American Black Bear (sorry, I'd rather we have both, but if we had only one... totally the American, for my realistic American zoos)
  • African Penguin over King because I love South Africa and its wildlife, plus I prefer warm-weather species as I generally build in warm or temperate environments and neither of my local zoos really have polar or even cold-weather species; the only ones I can think of are I guess Pandas, Wolves, and Przewalski's Horses at the Smithsonian Natl. Zoo and even those do okay in the summer heat without fully indoor spaces.
  • White Rhino because DLC animals are higher quality, it feels more like a basic rhino to me, and I, again, love South Africa
  • Fennec over Arctic Fox because quite frankly I don't know how to design for arctic species -- as mentioned above, I never really got how to make spaces for polar species.

1.-Cape Buffalo vs Wild Water Buffalo
2.- Spectacled Caiman vs Cuvier's Dwarf caiman
3.- Dall sheep vs Alpine Ibex
4.- Dingo vs Dhole
5.- Grey Seal vs Sea lion
6.- Red-ruffed lemur vs Black-and-White ruffed lemur
7.- Asian small-clawed otter vs Giant otter - just gonna add, the difference in the two for me is like polar opposites. Aside from both being otters they are nothing alike. One is possibly the cutest animal in the game now, and the other you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.
8.- Malayan Bear Formosan Black Bear
9.- King Penguin vs African Penguin
10.- Wihte rhino vs Indian rhino
11.- Artic fox vs Fennec Fox
12.- Fallow deer vs reindeer

1.-Cape Buffalo vs Wild Water Buffalo
Better model, less saturated niche (Asian hoofstock)

2.- Spectacled Caiman vs Cuvier's Dwarf caiman
Better model, larger size enables more realistic habitats

3.- Dall sheep vs Alpine Ibex
Line ball but Ibex wins because of hill enrichment.

4.- Dingo vs Dhole
Dingo because India/SEA has lots of species compared to Oceania

5.- Grey Seal vs Sea lion
More similar to species I’m familiar with from zoos

6.- Red-ruffed lemur vs Black-and-White ruffed lemur
Line ball - but in the end it’s a bit more distinct than the black and white

7.- Asian small-clawed otter vs Giant otter
More common IRL and super cute plus I have a little experience feeding and interacting with them.

8.- Malayan Bear vs. Formosan Black Bear
Because it bugs me how limited it’s distribution is.

9.- King Penguin vs African Penguin
Because it’s more common and flexible.

10.- Wihte rhino vs Indian rhino
An African rhino was needed more than the Indian IMO. Like both though.

11.- Artic fox vs Fennec Fox
I tend to build in warmer climates so this is more flexible and is more common IRL.

12.- Fallow deer vs reindeer
More common and it’s climate is less restrictive.
