Simmons Park Zoo

Simmons Park Zoo is a large Zoo based on zoos you would typically find in North America. Although my own personal experience is limited (one visit to Toronto Zoo that is one of the influences) I have used photos and general zoo knowledge to help build this zoo.

Open in the late 1960's, Simmons Park Zoo (originally Simmons Metropark Zoo) has a mixture of brand new exhibits such as 'Polar Explorers', 'Kidz Zone' & 'Frank Hobson Elephant Habitat' and older exhibits such as 'World Of Primates', 'Carter Giraffe & Rhinoceros Pavilion' and 'Ungulate Yards'.

This is the main entrance for the Zoo. The site also has a smaller pedestrian entrance located at the other end of the park. In the distance from the entrance plaza you can just about see the first exhibit you come to, the Sea Lions

Hey thanks! The zoo is supposed to be set in a public park. So things like baseball field etc

The Sea Lion Pool is one of the oldest enclosures in the zoo. A few years ago the enclosure was refurbished to provide a sandy beach and better filtration system. One of the disadvantages of it being an old exhibit is that it lacks underwater viewing.

Much of the zoo is split into themed areas, and heading left from the sea lions you come to 'Northern Frontiers' the North American section of the zoo. The first paddock you come to houses the breeding group of American Bison

Moving on past the Bison, there is a similar paddock for Pronghorn Antelope and opposite them an aviary for a Bald Eagle

In the far corner of the North American area is the Moose exhibit. The Moose have access to two paddocks so that they can be separated if needed.

The last two exhibits of the NA section house Arctic Wolves and Dall Sheep. The Wolves have access to the main enclosure and a smaller one which allows separation if needed.
