Simple Building Construction

I have a suggestion for a simple and fast building construction system:

1) draw the footprint of the building
2) adjust the height
3) select a texture for the walls
4) select a roof + texture (like in sims 3)

Now you have a some kind of cube with a roof instead of multiple wall and roof pieces. I am far from an expert, but wouldnt that enhance the performance, too?

5) you have the option to automatically place windows, doors and decorations of your choice. Those should be editable afterwards if some look weird or just not to your liking. Instead, you could opt to place them manually the "old" way.
6) If you have a path in the footprint, or construct one later on, it would either just carve a tunnel through the cube or give you some options to design the interiour too. Would be great for restaurants, too.

Of course, you don't have the freedom you have with the current system, but it's not meant to replace it, and you could always enhance the buildings with the pieces from the current system.
But think of the speed in which you can construct entire main streets!

so, what do you guys think?

Sounds like a fun system, but honestly, i don't think they will change the fundamental building system at this point

[up] this is actually a great idea, not sure why so many thumbs down. Obviously the current system wont be changed, but it is a little clunky compared to other construction games, and I'm not sure why they chose to do it that way. Many people have requested the ability to click and drag walls to place a longer row or collumn in 1 simple movement instead of placing multiple pieces. That would make things soooo much faster and it wouldnt even have to be a major change or addition to the current system

but ya know, theres other more important features people want like more advanced queue systems(ugh) and hotel managements lol? but yea, Id rather see them improve wall placement before adding other things.

[up] [up] [up] I seriously hate having to place every wall and every roof piece manually, one at a time. The ability to select things and copy/paste them helps a lot. However, it is no substitute for finding a better way to construct buildings. The current solution that's been in use since RCT2 is powerful but also very tedious.

The duplicate command speeds things up, Only thing is you have to currently choose each piece indivually.

If they tweaked it where you could click and hold the left mouse button and just drag across pieces to select them, that could be a serious lifesaver. Clicking individual pieces can be quite the nuisance, especially if theyre all really tightly packed together.

Check out Silvarret's videos, he regularly will build one corner of a rooftop, and then click and drag, duplicate it, turn it 90 degrees, place, repeat, until he has a sweet looking roof.

As an addition for those times you need the equivalent of a movie's false fronts or village street without "cookie cutting" copies of the same buildings. But not as replacement for the current detailed construction.
