We still need our own sub thread. ;(
I dig your build and its "retro" panel feel, still reminds me/looks like Apollo control panels from the 60's.
The cantered sticks and leather highlights add that retro feel overall, like your just about to dock with a supply ship.


I think our immersion level is a direct relationship to our allowable budget. [mine is mediocre, but me and Cmdr Figaro have a plan for that]
Playing is always on the top of the list. I'm currently out of bubb 500Ly and going, no Engineers needed. ha


Next up panels to console integration madness.

I dedicated one 8 bit port on all micros so I could "comm" to all units connected with some relevent action info.
I broke out the 8 bit port into chunks so each panel can have its own dedicated command set/block to the RGB's/Sound board.

So like 1 to 64 = left panel, 65 to 128 = right panel, etc etc... Each will have about 60 command slots available.

Trying to catagorize actions with leds and some extra sounds. [need to make some more sound bytes]
Can only do some basic things here as without that local side API to hook into ship data, this ship isn't leaving the pod bay!


Didn't really ever have any plans to add RGB/Console integrations so just gonna wing it some here and pick out a few to code up and live with.

I broke out RGB commands by quadrant, here is a pic/breakout.

Some action/color combos:

Boosters - Center, blink white
Balance - Speak "Power Nominal" top_left & top_right blink green 3 times
Target - Dome, blink white twice fast
Target Panel - b_left, top_left blue on when up, off when down
Systems Panel - b_right, top_right blue on when up, off when down
Landing Gear - b_center blink red, off when landing gear up
Request Docking - Dome red/green toggle 5 times

I'll try to make a few more movies coming of things from a power boot to playing/using the panels.
As pics just don't explain whats going on very well.

You inspired me to add yet another aspect to my pit, sigh. [up]
Ambient light blocker/sound damper shrouding.

I like your LCD cover shrouding so much that I am going to add that kinda deal to mine.
I plan on extending my base frame in a few key spots vertically, then stretch a thick black lycra over it to create a dome'ish effect.
Means more 8020 and well more building...

Concept only for now but working on the model and materials. Be the "next up" addition.

Main pit update:

Blew the left 7" nav control panel and ships about useless without this. [this actually happened but I playing it up obv]
I might as well have a broken windshield and sucking on space with the counter running!

This totally has slowed my progress as I need all panels talking to do the actions, so when one of the main two go down we are talking about 1/2 the ships controls.

Working on new replacement now but the mining resources are low and well, the engineers are so far away we are just going to repair onsite.

Left panel just went belly up no ideas or reasons. Best guess is its some copper/pcb mfg failure maybe in the layers, say I am pretty sure I paid a pretty penny for my ASP my insurance bond should cover this.

It just stopped booting up "maybe battle damages" or just too much static buildup when your space-truck'n thru wormholes.

Be a few weeks floating in this sector, idle hands...
