Newcomer / Intro SIN broker. Question - what did "SIN" stand for?

When originally announced, Interstellar Factors were called "SIN brokers" and this term was even used on the forum for a while.

Though numerous announcements are on the internet about it, none of them say what the capitalised acronym "SIN" actually stood for (a bit like ARX).

My guess would be something like "Shadow Information Network", since it was meant to be some kind of underworld contact.

Does anyone actually know what it stands for?

I'm pretty sure they never had a good acronym. it's just a service that deals with player sins and sounded good when talking about the upcoming release. when they couldn't figure out a good acronym, it was renamed to what it is now.

I attempted to find any info on this, but there doesn't seem to be much. There's a post from the 2016 Gamescon here that mentions the feature, but doesn't indicated what SIN stands for. I think it just means sins, or crimes, and that's all it was.

In any case, it didn't last long with that name so it must not have been important :)

I wonder why they kept putting SIN in capitals then, as if it stood for something. Oh well, people do still talk about the solar system's star as "S.O.L." and talk about flying the "A.S.P. Explorer" so I guess it has precedent!

"Crime broker" would've made more sense. Though I quite like "payoff merchant", "bent copper" or "dodgy dealer".
