Since 2.1 launches today let's discuss 2.2

Another thread of rampant speculation un-bounded by facts and reality... Just sayin! :rolleyes:

Not entirely. FDev has announced that fighters and passenger transport are coming with 2.2, so we can discuss those aspects. But yeah, anything else would be speculation.

Personally, fighters and passengers alone seems like an update light on content, and I’m hoping that some other nice stuff comes with 2.2, like maybe volcanic planet landings, and any love for exploration content, I mean at this point I’d take anything at all for exploration!!!!
 
My hopes for 2.2, in order of importance:

1) Passenger missions.

2) Full multi-part missions.

3) Power Play overhaul.

4) Some of the bigger ships from earlier iterations of Elite (like the Panther, Puma, Lion & Tiger).

5) More PoI's of non-human origin (i.e. natural or alien), especially outside of the bubble.

6) volcanic planets (though in truth I expect that won't be until 2.3).

Love all of these.

Would also really, really love to see shared missions for wings.

Wing mates should be able to share credits and rep for working together on missions. Please, pretty please, allow factions to reward team efforts!
 
Part of that discussion will be around SuperCruise. Can a fighter with no FSD enter SC, or is it only capable of Sub-SC flight?
In which case does Orbital Cruise count as SC speed factoring or not?

My suspicion will be they will be limited to space (normal) flight only.

I always thought the smaller fighters would have class 1 FSDs (Sidewinder equips a class 2). No jump capability but can super cruise.
 
It would be nice if even ships that are not equipped with passenger cabins, but do have spare cockpit seats, could, taxi-style, take single passengers who are not averse to slightly more "industrial" travelling, in a front seat and a g-suit.

Could be a way to have some interesting branching mission scenarios. I recall thinking the journalist who got too curious, went underground, and later turned up dead, should have gone through something like this. Then again; Maybe she did, and the first commander she hitched a ride with immediately sold her out to the man. :p

EDIT: No idea how something like a hijacking scenario might play out mechanically... :7

I wouldn't get your hopes on on full multi-part missions. They just did a missions overhaul and probably wont have the time to do another till 2.3
 
Quick update on this thread.

Now we have 2.1, and are better aware of the AI, does appear that our ship launched fighters might actually be some use.
A question I've got to ask is why we're going to the limited to just one ship. How about each bay require a size 6 slot, thus allowing an Anaconda to carry several, almost like a mini-carrier.

Thoughts?
 
While it would be nice, it's very very unlikely. The ships are already a bit weaker *because* of the incoming fighter bay, which means it's based on some sort of math the devs have worked out for a specific setup. Allowing them to load up on a ton of fighters would *grossly* overpower them.
 
Really hoping this week we get a Dev update & news letter taking us forward instead of "look more stuff from the Engineers update!"
