Sinking SRV, Outposts and ships

Could the dev team look at the problem of non-solid surfaces?

I've just had 3 missions where the surface of the planet is either porous (drop through) or just falls away in from of the Commander.

I've seen this a few times as well but my research only led me to "update the graphics driver".

Sure enough, this seemed to work for me and the only times it has come back, there's been a new stable release of the GeForce drivers.

I've never had it happen when running the latest driver. I'm not disagreeing that it would be nice not to have this issue, but thankfully it is easily fixed.

I'm running the latest driver release, and it's happened in both this beta, and the standard release.

It's not often, but I've had 4 surface scan missions where the only way to get back to the ship was to self destruct the SRV.

What amazed me was the persistence of surface (or lack of it) and the outpost location (beta).
Used to be that re-logging could be!p.

This is known bug for some commanders, and it seems latest Nvidia drivers are suspect. Be sure to report issue and try to roll back two version numbers back.

Two ways to fix this issue, log out and back in, that usually fixes it for me, if it doesn't restart the game with the "shader preparation on startup" option turned on in the graphics setting, it's just a terrain generation issue and may need to flush the texture cache in the vid card. To avoid self destruct log out, log back in with vanilla elite, you will appear in orbit in your ship, log out and in with horizons and viola, no self destruct.

Fingers crossed, I haven't had it for ages myself now but self destructing your SRV is certainly not necessary to escape.

All nice and well to point at the drivers but it happens on PS4 too. Even worse, when goofing around on buildings with a SRV you can almost guarantuee that you'll eventually fall through the building and get stuck completely.

OK - let's see if we can help FD to nail this once and for all because it's been happening for years but I'm not sure they've ever really got a good handle on it.

I've created a new bug report over here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...V-sinking-quot-aka-quot-floating-rocks-quot-)

If the fault I describe there sounds like the fault you're experiencing then PLEASE add your voice to that thread along with any supporting description (e.g. locations where this has happened) and/or evidence (videos, screenshots) that you can provide. In due course I'll try to record my own video of this happening too (which really shouldn't be hard) to support that report.

Umm, PS4's have video drivers as well! It has an AMD radeon Polaris GPU, and while you may not notice the video drive updates I can assure you it does them. As I said I haven't had the problem for a while but I have an Nvidia 970M GPU in my laptop, first thing would be to compare cards and driver versions for all the users having serious problems to see if you can find any common ground. Not sure what PS4 players can do about finding driver versions but they will all be using the same version so once you have one piece of information it should apply to all PS4's.

Good luck guys.

I know the PS4 has them as well. The point is that you can't manually update them. But the game being a consumer product, it should simply work on the drivers on the system.

How sure are you about that? Exiting to the main menu and relogging typically fixes the problem (for a while). Have you gone for some time using the 388.71 drivers without seeing the problem re-occur?
Yup.

The latest drivers persistently caused chaos on all planets. (I have videos somewhere).

Relogging, even rebooting, and redoing the shader cache thingie didn't solve it.

Installing 388.71 did. Lol
Been fine for a week in both beta and live.

Interesting. Those screenshots in that bug report thread don't look like quite the same thing I'm talking about but nevertheless I'll try that graphics driver and see if it makes any difference.

The driver only seems to effect 6XX and 7XX series GPU though. If you're using something that isn't old, you're probably experiencing a different issue.

On my xbox; I've fixed it sometimes by just opening the option screen and then resuming. When that doesn't work, then reloading it always does.
