Sitting Duck

Okay since the last patch trading has become almost useless. It's impossible to escape an interdiction with the Lakon 9, because it's slow, unmaneuverable even with everything A class. So I'd submit to the interdiction and then boost away to supercruise. Now you can't even do that. I've got disruptive mass even though they're on the other side of the radar. I've lost 20 million credits alone today because of it. I rarely, die because I trade in a lonely area of the galaxy so I only have NPC's to worry about. But if I can't escape them, escaping a CMDR would be next to impossible.
I've not found the need to rant about the game, but when a trader has so much more to lose as we can't insure cargo, it makes the game even more of a kick in the teeth.
There's no point weaponising the ship for two reasons, getting the pipper in a slow lumbering T9 on the target and because it would cut down on cargo space, I tend not to carry a shield generator. I'm not asking for much, just give me a fighting chance

Shields and turrets are a must. The only ship that I could run with no shields or weapons through anarchy systems was a Cobra (due obviously to its speed).

Unless you trade in secure systems you are asking for trouble really.

And how much would you have saved if you had the shields? I agree about no point in weaponising - BUT, flying around in that thing without shields is just suicidal and I just can't sympathise. You need to learn how to defend - chaff maybe? some PD's for the missiles perhaps? A shield cell or two? This is Elite Dangerous - you know that, right? But I do agree that it is at that level (T9) where we really should have cargo insurance - that will most certainly help.

... when a trader has so much more to lose as we can't insure cargo...
Actually explorers lose their data, and bounty hunters lose their bounties when they're destroyed, and there's no insurance for them either. I'd say trading has way the greatest potential for making money, thus also for losing the greatest amount.

Moral: Be careful (shields, as others have said) and don't be greedy.

The only way to put a shield on is to equip D class equipment. That would seriously screw up my jump distance, after all they're the lightest. That would make it even more of a chore to fly than it already is. With A class internals the hull is just far too heavy.

I run a shield gen, no scoop and carry 500t (A Class FSD then all D Class gear for less mass and more jump distance)

submit - boost - (weapons hot) mines (weapons cold) - chaff - fire up FSD - boost - heat sink - SC

Works every time

I fly a type 9 with 500 T of cargo and a shield gen - no NPC has ever given me anything remotely close to a problem.

Interdiction? Mash 'X' to submit, 4 Pips to Engine, 2 in sys. Boost upon landing and keep boosting - with a good power distrubtor the T9 can pretty much perma boost. Hit the FSD as soon as you can - never taken any hull damage from an npc.

I think NPC's are scared of me now, haven't been interdicted in weeks, last one to interdict me was a Python which I got to 25% hull when they ran off , all without taking any damage.

I fly a T9 with beam turrets all round.

Seconded, or something similar.

You had me worried then until it became clear you didnt run shields.

Even with shields you're looking at a 1:30 because of this disruptive mass. As far as I'm concerned they've taken a trader best form of defence away, escape. How a small craft can cause a mass disruption from the other side of the radar is beyond me.

i have been seriously considering getting some friends together to hang out by rare commodities stations JUST to interdict jackasses running freight without shields. come on, guys. why do you think truckers carry shotguns?
