Elite / Frontier Six Billion Dollar Experiment

Hi

Did anyone watch Horizon on BBC in UK on Tuesday. On November 26th, the worlds most complicated scientific instrument will be switched on, in an attepmt to recreate the big bang at the start of the universe. Apparently there will be a 1 in 50 million chance of creating a black hole that could destroy the world.

Heres the link to the web page

You can download the podcast of the program at this site. Very interesting.

Heres a link where you can vote whether we should switch the machine on.

Should we switch it on ?

Might as well. The new Elite is not out yet so let the world go kablooie! ;)
Forget about "Should we switch it on?" because they will no matter what the public outcry because nobody spends billions without flicking the switch. Science has gone beyond morality. Science will never stop and ask if they should do something or not, they'll just go ahead and do it

Not gonna be drawn on details but everything is about to change... Steorn are for real. The whole standard model must be wrong. So i say don't switch it on.... yet.

1 in 50 million, thats better odds than the lottery! So if the particles did create a black hole how long would we have before matter as we know it disappeared from under us, only my girlfriend doesn't take delivery of her R8 until spring and it would kind of suck if I never got to drive it.

It would be great if that machine gets switched on and everything just dissolves. And out of the darkness a sign pops up reading "Level 2".

Still, it's a good time to be around, the science into space and it's exploration is picking up pace again. Vacuumed up into a black hole or not, it's still rather exciting.
