Size 6 7 and 8 HRP, MRPs

This is why I think ED does not reward experimentation on big ships. The large slots are simply there for shields and SCBs and not much else.

On that part i do agree. What i wrote also was not for pure hull tanks. I am sorry if you got that impression. But even if we'd have HRPs of all sizes, shields would still be better. There's no way around that, unless the big HRPs would be crazily overpowered, which then again would open a different can of warms.

As long as HRPs are scaled along the pattern FD currently uses, bigger HRPs just won't be that attractive and wouldn't be of much use.

So should we have them? Maybe. I wouldn't mind, although i also don't wish for it. But i think that the benefit would be very limited.
 
I've been mulling this HRP thing over and while I still don't support it if it's implemented it's not going to be a big deal (for me & the way I play).

I think my reasoning boils down to 'you can fit a small module in a large slot but you can't fit a large module in a small slot'.

The logical conclusion of that reasoning is that only class 1 HRPs exist, but they can be engineered at least as well as currently. It does not address the OP's concern about wasted space, but retains the same dilemma of whether to fill the whole ship with armour or make some PvE concessions to practicality beyond combat.

It would also close the performance gap between small & large ships which I like the idea of.

tbh I think the whole idea of hitpoint buffing modules is a bad one & my ideal combat focused ship would simply be empty to save on rebuy cost.
