Skimmer destruction of a sentry skimmer!
I have not done these missions. Do you have to have an SRV or can you shoot it from your ship?
And are they only one skimmer?

- you can actually shoot them from your ship, but because you can't target them, you'll need fixed weapons or dumbfire missiles - for me it is more easy to use a srv
- there is more than one type of skimmers, and i'm not sure which one count for that mission.

tip: if the settlement is too hard, go for blue-circled POIs 100 km around the surface installation - skimmers there will be from the same minor faction, count for mission, and will be wanted in 90% of all times.

I depends. I always try to shoot them from my ship. But it's a bit tricky as you can lock them only sometimes. Attacking one somehow seems to enable the lock function but you have to be close and fiddle around a bit. So, most of the time shooting them manually and aiming manually is necessary. But it's the faster way. No landing, driving etc. Shooting them manually with 1 beam laser works great.

In case a base is heavily guarded, your ship might get attacked heavily while trying to shoot the skimmers. In that case you better land and go with the buggy.

In my experience killing mission-target skimmers with your ship does not count toward the mission's requirement, I always have to use the SRV...unless this was changed recently.
