Skimmer mission issue (probably broken)

Hi there, well never did any of those skimmer missions until today before so I thought "why not?"...

Well the thing is simple, I got 3 missions because those were all located at the same place, they gave me the location and the name of the base with "low security" status. They told me to kill 8 skimmers in one, 12 in another and 6 more in another mission (I know if I'll kill 12 skimmers all missions will be completed). They also told me which ones I need to kill from "x" faction. Cool...any 2 year old can understand that.

Now I am here at that base with my ship and SRV, in the main base there is an "y" faction which is the one controlling the system but "x" faction is not present here at all. So all skimmers there are "y" instead of "x". That means that I can't kill those skimmers there at all. Obviously.

I know that you have to search for POI's with the SRV and then Skimmers should spawn in them. Well...almost 3 hours in and still not a single skimmer appeared from the faction that I need to kill. The mission icon is in this planet, this is the base that I was told to be, and I'm searching for POI's all around this base in a 30km radius. No luck.

So what's the deal here? I'm really tired of waste more time in this so I may ask...Am I doing something wrong at all, or are these missions completely broken?

I killed skimmers with bounty's but they were all from the main faction ("y"), but still not a single one from the one I'm looking for ("x"). Those skimmers with bounty's were also from the main faction, and some others were clean, so no kill on those.

Also I went to the main system related to this faction ("x") and is not the controlling faction either. I thought that if I'll go to their main system then it could be easier to find those skimmers from that particular faction in one of those planets. And...I was wrong. The only ones I found were also from the controlling system.

PS: Waiting for some replies...going to eat and then I'll come back to see if there is a solution aside from quitting those missions and forget about it. What an incredible waste of time...

The skimmah mastah here!

First, it's possibly a bug. I've had it happen once or twice before.

Second, it also possible that between the time you picked up the missions, and the time you flew the mission, that the asset changed hands (due to some kind of conflict, retreat, whatever).

Question - does the target faction have any ground assets in the target system? If the answer is YES go to one of those settlements and kill your skimmers. If the answer is NO, then dump the missions and move on.

Also, every time you get a new skimmer mission, always scan the nav beacon. Trust me on this one.

Did I mention that I'm the "skimmah mastah"?

Okay "Mr Skimmah Mastah"...(you should change your name to that :p) I'm gonna try (later) to scan the nav bacon and check the other settlement in that planet. But don't think that this faction is going to be here at all since they have no influence in this system at all. That's the thing maybe, I got these missions in another system not related (but close) to this one.

I'll update this later.

One day that I wanted to change from pure trading...and here I am...better go to what I'm used to. [hotas]

More like the "Vanishing Skimmers" bug. Been reported before, but I think QA has a problem reproducing it because it doesn't happen every time. It's been going a long while now, must be at least a year.

Maybe just dump that mission and take the rep hit. Try another. If it happens again, definitely report it.

There have been occasions where despite getting a mission update from the ADS, the kills are don't count towards the mission(s). Personally, it's far less aggravating to just scan the nav first, rather than go there, kill skimmers, find they're not working, go back to the nav, go back...

Good luck, OP. I wouldn't give up on non-trading ops just yet. Skimmer missions, in particular, are fun and lucrative. When you say the faction has no influence, do you mean they are at 0%, or are the missing from the board altogether? Regardless, for the hundreds of skimmer missions that I've done, the condition you describe (target asset owned by non-target faction) has only happened two or three times.

Missing from the board all together in that system. And in their system they control just 11% (they are the "minor faction" there, with less control compared with the others).

It is not that I only do trading but when it comes to missions it is one of the few legal and lucrative things to do in the game. Just wanted to do Skimmers for a change today...no need for making millions in an hour, I can do well in my home system with pure trading. ;)

Also thanks for the help. [up]

You're very welcome!

Well...nothing. Scanned the bacon some "mission updates" appeared telling me "we have no more intel so you better look the old way" (like finding those skimmers by my own...just what I was doing before...doh'). Looked back again and nothing, same results with skimmers being from the other faction. Some wanted some not but non of that bloody faction.

Checked in the other system (where this factions is located) and they have one outpost in where they are the controlling faction, but then in the planet there is a settlement controlled by the other main faction in that system (and the other stations).

Went back to the other system where I took those missions and guess what...they are still giving them. If only it was possible to do them I could be a gold mine. (payments are between 2 and 5 million each mission) I took 4 before and now I'm going to abandon them all.

PS: Already did that, went from ally to friendly...no fine so...life goes on in the darkness of space. :p But no one is going to give me those 4 lost hours back...

This thread can be closed./

Yeah, it's a wash man. Dump the missions and find new ones :)

That mission update is what you were looking for, had the target faction had a settlement in the target system. No big deal. You'll get 'em next time around :)

Get the name of the faction, who's skimmers you need to kill. Use the system map to check every base in the system to see where they are. Go to the base, blow the generator, nuke the skimmers with dumbfire missiles. Go back and claim your millions.
