Skimmer protection, a Corvette!

Greetings Commanders.
I've recently taken on a few skimmer missions in my Cobra lV, and at the first planet site, there's a Fed Corvette, sitting quietly. Tried to play with it , got blown to bits.is there any way of getting these missions done?
Thanks in advance.

You can find skimmers in POIs nearby. Don’t attack the large base, or any ship, especially not a Corvette. :)

I think these are meant to be wing missions. After various bad experiences I seem to have developed a remarkable talent of ignoring these sort of missions altogether. Actually its quite surprising to notice they still exist.

Well checxk the mission level you are taking. Something above your ranking takes .... something above your ranking!
However if you cannot take the ship, then maybe move onto the next man made scanner ping in the POI?

Measuring risk/reward is the fundamental bisis of the game.

I'm pretty sure the Corvette isn't protecting the skimmers [where is it]

The ship is protecting the base along with the skimmers. As others have mentioned, you can find skimmers from the same faction at POI's away from the base.

@Op - unless you have some cascade torpedoes on that MKIV, you'd be better off hunting for skimmers away from the base

Very often there are skimmers to be found in the territory surrounding the base.
They will count towards the mission.
No need to incur the wrath of a Federal Corvette.

Sometimes there are even no skimmers to be found at all at the base itself.
It threw me off the first few times, but then I discovered you can search the area around the base for POI.
Works like a charm.

Aww, i wish my skimmer missions had a Corvette to shoot down.

I really really need to get around to shooting the engines off an NPC over a planet. I must know if it's hilarious or not .. lol

OP, like others said, look for temporary POIs within about a 100km range of the target.

Fly above 1.5km, zoom your scanner out, and look for blue circles on the radar.
Once you find one, fly to its edge, and drop down to about 100m altitude, facing the opposite side of the blue circle. (Blue circle with disappear below 1.5km)
Then fly straight to the other side, looking for anything out of the ordinary, like black objects that don't match the rocks.
Then land near it. :)
Most stuff spawns in the centre of the POI circle, so it's easy to find from the air.
If in doubt, fly back up to 1.5km and check your position. Or land and use your SRV to find the POI instead.

Skimmers at these will be mission targets, but are also usually wanted. :)

There's two things you can do:

1. Land some distance from the base and go prospecting in the SRV. You can find about 12 skimmers an hour that are guarding stashes or crashed beacons. Most are wanted, but not all, so be careful if you want to stay clean.
2. Study the system map. Often, the faction you need has other bases around the system, and one has absolutely no security, so you can just fly close to get the skimmers to come out, then nuke them with dumfire missiles. That will make you wanted, so only do that if the base is in a different system to where you got the mission from. you'll only be wanted in the system or even the location of the base, so you can keep going back there to get more.

I agree go propsecting, but look for the POI from ship, up to 50km (I think - I normally reach my 24 by 30km). Find the man made, and yes, sometimes parked ships protect the skimmer Poi. I think D9veh is being conservative at 12.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind shooting down a Corvette myself... with my Corvette. :D

As for shooting the engines out - I'm willing to bet it will be hilarious. During Beta 3 for 3.0, I did a "Reboot and Repair" in my Chieftain about 16 km above the Dweller's base. I was trying to bring the shields back online because I accidentally hit "Silent Running". Being G5 Reinforced Prismatic shields, with 3 shield boosters, it was going to take a long time for them come back naturally... so Reboot and Repair time!

That was hilarious! With zero power to all systems, my ship immediately began tumbling and falling back toward the planet. Sadly, the game considered that falling "too much movement" so the shields didn't come back up. Meh. And I was too high up to crash. Still it was funny watching my ship tumble out of control for a bit.

Enemies with zero thrusters should go tumbling down to the surface and take impact damage. If that isn't enough to kill them (probably not), I'm not sure what would happen next. I may have to add this to my "To Do" list as well. [haha]
