You know those chicken and cows in RPG games like skyrim or witcher. you know when you punch them the whole town comes after you right?
well I was in a planet port today. was wait for my ship to be undocked and saw those cute skimmers scanning the ground nearby. as soon as i undocked, i bumped into one of them to see what happens.

They exploded right away.

then the planet port anti criminal defenses flared up and killed my anaconda within seconds.

I wouldn't mind if Odyssey replaced skimmers with NPCs. Robots are, by far, the lamest possible antagonists.

Be thankful you weren't around for the suicidal skimmers which would spawn 2km above a settlement and crash down on your head like an H-bomb going off.

Sometimes doing the do in a big ship is not the best thing though. But you have learnt that now.

Try to Fus Ro Dah a skimmer, chickens are much easier and you blow away the peasants along with it.

I am pretty sure that OP accidently bumped one when he was taking off from a full base guys...

You know? With landing pads, shipyards, outfitting, etc? The ones that literally can't be attacked like an orbital station?

In my early days I was lifting off from a planetary outpost when I saw one approaching. Having never seen one before I rolled inverted and did a close pass just to get a good look at it. I swear I didn't hit the thing, but in moments my shields had gone, then my HUD went blank and the rock face of a nearby cliff started to rush straight at me.
Not my first rebuy, but the only one that had me staring at the screen, mouth wide open, wondering what the hell just happened.

Or more like those trash mobs you sometimes have to deal with because they're more annoying rather than an actual threat.

And the goliath would be that one miniboss that's just an upgraded version of those same mobs. Doesn't actually look that intimidating at first, but will yeet you into orbit if you look at it the wrong way.
