Skywanderers.. A huge voxel space game that looks very promising

I came across this 'Skywanderers' and it looks very good indeed. The single dev is going to KS this very soon. I'll be backing it and hope it does really well.
The developer was inspired by lego and minecraft.. Its not hard to see that here of course. ;)

And another vid, not by the dev (I don't think so anyway). A few have the game and are testing and whatnot at present. I wish I were one of those, to be honest.

I really, really hope will will see a Ringworld like that (2nd video at 1:30) in ED one day.
That would be so awesome.

It could be an ancient alien artefact.
Imagine being able to fly into the atmosphere of the ring and landing there and discovering alien flora and fauna, but also technology, ancient city ruins. Or there might be machines trying to keep everything in pristine condition with the resources they have.
And there could also be docks on the outside of the ring.

It would be magnificent.
I would travel to the other side of ED's galaxy just to be able to see that.

I can see some amazing things being built on those rings. The possibilities are endless for a game such as this.

I love voxel games, Starmade is great but lacks alot of what seems to be in this already. However, the advantage of Starmade is that you can actually fly without jumping, but the skybox changing is very basic in Starmade, it changes as you move along, not sure how they do that, but its nice.
Space Engineers is a favourite of mine. However it lacks the travel in space, before the game fails pretty badly. Go so far out from the start and the game faulters, even though you don't jump from skybox to skybox, which I love, but its no good if the game can't handle that travelling.

Here in this Skywanderers we have to jump into another box (as per, more or less, every other space game). But here he pulls it off a little better, because he'll show a Nebula, in a skybox your in, way out in the distance, then you can jump into that Nebula, o.k. its only a skybox, but the effect is very nice indeed. Also I like the 'X'ish tunnel for travel. I think that deals well with the transition between skyboxes. Not sure how it will pan out over the size of space he is doing (very large), but I think he'll do his best.

Overall I'm really hoping he does well with this game, at least he is starting in a good position, he actually has a playable game, even though its pre-alpha, it still looks really good. Would love to get my hands on a copy, so hope that is in the KS, perhaps.

Here's something a little different from the topic of the day, which seems to be SC (as always). But this game has as much potential I believe. Sort of Minecraft meets Starmade. I like it and what he seems to be doing with it. I wish him and his game luck for the future.

The game hits KS on the 29th of this month. Not sure what his goal price will be.

Looks really impressive, I'll probably throw him a few bucks once the kickstarter begins. I've only checked out a couple of the videos - does the dev discuss the general gameplay in any of the clips available ie combat, trading, exploration etc?

He is talking to the guys that have it at the moment, they drop in notes/requests. He seems up for listening.

I love the way, after watching the vid above... Everything just seems to work fluidly. :)

Going to KS today. Low'ish pledges, especially to get your hands on the game pre-alpha (25 euros, watch the vid), in around a month or so. Obviously you can pledge lower 15 euros and wait for him to get it on Steam early access (around 6mths he thinks). Plus there will be other pledges and goals, no doubt.
I've not got the link or seen the KS page yet, I will try and get it up here as soon as I can. Or, if anyone else gets the link, please post it up for us all.

Its a voxel game that seems to have stability at present in its very early form. I haven't played it, I'm only going from what I have seen so far. But one thing is for sure, a stable voxel game that he himself wants, as he describes it, a cross between minecraft and Elite, sounds very good to me.

Over 75% funded in the first day, well under a day actually. Great going.
Looking forward to getting this and playing along with those lucky enough to already have it. [big grin]

It is good going, but:

  • the target is pretty low, €15,000
  • there are but 209 backers (at time of writing)

Good points and backers should always take care.

I like the idea of low backer numbers this early. It has already been Greenlit on Steam and will go there for early access (6mths or so, perhaps). So the income will increase quite a bit there too. However, we're 1 day in, so its a case of watch this space.
