Slaves, can I let them go somehow?

Get rid of the slaves and welcome to the 21st century, disgusting is the only word to describe any form of slavery in games.

Imperial slaves are not slaves the way most people think.

They are not whipped.
They are not forced to do manual labour until they expire from exhaustion.

They are, infact, paid for their work.
Many imperials voulenteer into slavery to earn their way back to life rather than live in debt.

Empire has no beggars in the streets because the slavery system ensures that everyone can make their way back to their former lives.

In fact, slavery in empire is more akin to what we would call indentured servants.

Federation however, has no system to handle beggars, illegal slavery and other things, so the bottom of the Federation society is a truly a cesspool.

Which is why I stand by the statement "Better dead than Fed".

Every time the topic of slavery crops up the Imperials march out their one or two domestic slaves who don't have the haunted look of someone that's been regularly abused. Or they take cameras to the slave factories that smell of fresh paint.

The problem with these PR campaigns is that young Imperial Citizens, who've worked up a bit of a debt, see this propaganda and think to themselves that slavery will be a quick and easy way to solve their problems. After all, the slaves in the holo-vids are all smiling into the cameras.

Imperial slaves travel frozen in canisters just the same as illegal slaves. There needs to be a star system which allows those of us that abhor slavery to free them, even if this act of freeing the slaves requires us to smuggle the canisters past the authorities. I'm just a simple miner, but I'm more than willing to risk my reputation, my life, if it means I can provide these poor souls with their freedom.

Slavery is a terrible thing, as is killing someone, as is stealing, as is controlling a market and making profit on someone else's misfortune, etc.... If we sensor out all of the horrible things within the gaming universes there won't be anything to fight against or do, we'll be swimming around the galaxy doing pretty much nothing. I want to play in the Elite universe that has these terrible things so that I can play an altruistic character that goes around trying to make it a better universe.. probably because I have too little influence in the real world. I have just gone to a system that exports slaves in order to complete a mission to free slaves, but on arrival the station does not sell slaves... probably because FD have taken them out of the game for now? How far will this go... in the end there will be no game to play. Remove the killing, remove the violence, remove the inappropriate trading, remove the weapons, remove the disproportionate power, remove the hardship, remove the danger.... no game at all! I would say if you feel passionate about 'bad things' in games then put the game down and try to help resolve some of the real world issues out there (nothing anyone does playing in a fantasy game has any real impact on the real world, or I doubt has any impact on their real-world morals).

As an adult I prefer we have the antagonistic behaviours so that moral choices can exist in the game. I say keep slave trading, waring, weapons, violence, and let the players team together to fight against the injustice and freedom... or conversely if someone wants to play at being an antagonist, pirate, on the morally questionable side, then go at it... its a game.

Don't get me wrong, bro. We're (most of us at least) are very similar to the games imperial slaves. Unless, you're selfemployed and entirely free of any kind of debt.
Btw, it is entirely up to you to make a difference in the game. Go free some slaves whenever you can afford to. That's my main plan anyways.

What happens if you release them inside a station?

Stations cluttered with cargo containers of slaves might prod Frontier into giving us an in-game sink for unwanted units of slaves.

No no no,.....dont free them! These are imperial slaves. They put themselves into slavery to Pay a personal debt. To Honor them, you got to sell them for a fair Price. Dont sell them on a Black market. Go to imp space and fetch a High Bud for them.

Maybe if they rename Slaves to "Working Convicts" or something then some people might not feel too bad about dealing in them, I say come over to mokosh and give me them so I can make some money from your sympathetic views on the subject.

Slavery in the Empire us not the traditional type of slavery, remember imperial slaves contract themselves into "slavery" to wipe out a debt and for honour reasons or even to give themselves a leg-up in life, there are laws in place on how they should be treated and provided for and they have certain rights including a pension if they reach retirement age while in contract (in some cases, where a debt is not the issue, even a wage is to be paid). Much more civilised than slavery in the Federation, not that I agree to slavery, just trying to put some perspective into the discussion :)

This. That's why we need the ability to free rescued slaves after having blasted the damned slavers to Hell. The game should allow us to take a stand against injustice, not pretend it doesn't exist.
