slaves right or wrong

is it wrong to deal or deliver slaves in ED ......i don't think so its a game and part of the game is to make money.
it is wrong in the real world.......

Just as wrong as killing pedestrians in GTA V.

Whaling in Assassins Creed BlackFlag.

Shooting civilians in a Airport mission in CoD

Shooting Afghans in Medal of Honor.

Sooner or later, if we are keeping this topic hot, if we all make a huge fuzz about some bits and bytes, some Human rights group, hating on video games will notice. Whatever happens then, i dont know. But i fear for the life of Elite Dangerous.

They banned 50% of games in Australia because of this..

Many would agree with you.

Many would alo say that it's an anti social mind that gets pleasure from pretending to be a murderer, slave trader, drug runner and so on.

There are a lot of people who role play characters and there are NPCs who are either for or against slavery.

I see it as a game and my character does all sorts of questionable things but draws the line at slavery or slave trading and has managed to reach tycoon trading rating without dealing in slaves and has actively engaged ii community goals and missions to liberate them. Money is part of the game but there's more to it than that.

Imperial slaves are volunteers aren't they? Like paid interns.

And clearly it's only a game.
In general they are but in actuality and lore they are not. Check out Elite Reclamation and some of the earlierst community goals where the Empire has slaughtered million's of it's slaves for seeking freedom or bought illegal slaves and processed and augmented them to sell them on for profit at a discount as imperial slaves.

And yet other's say "they're pixel's and there is no in game feature that make's the 'slave canister' seem any different from a 'Food Cartridge canister' the way the game does thing's."

Well each to their own but if you start trying to play the morality route in game where do you stop? You won't get left with too much.

Piracy - robbing people
Bounty hunting - blowing people up for money
Smuggling - facilitating other people's dodgy activities

etc.

Interesting thing: Back when I was a teenager playing FE2, trafficing narcotics or weapons felt real good and slaves were the holy grail. Screw the system (damn you, anti swearing policy), Han Solo, Kessel run, spice and all that.

Now I'm 32 playing ED and I do everything to uphold the law in the game world, sacrificing millions of credits in the process, but that's what feels good. Probably just a side effect of growing up...

Not this old chestnut again.. :D

I'm at that age now with my poor memory where I don't mind discussing the same subjects again and again and again. New people are coming onto the forum all the time, and they want to have their say. I would prefer it if they were to do a forum search first though. It can be fun looking through an old thread that's been risen from the dead.

Elite has had slavery from day one. It was always portrayed as a bad thing in the game, and dealing in the trade of sentient humans has always had consequences. Taking the evil out of a game would result in a more boring game. Could you imagine a cops and robbers movie where they decided that robbery wasn't a suitable subject for entertainment?

My only beef I have with the slavery in Elite is that it doesn't provide enough mechanisms for us white knights to tackle slavery, and show these slave traders the error of their ways. The slavers should be taking more of a risk, and the anti-slavery fighters should have more incentive to carry on with the fight.

Down to the player and as you say, and rightly too, each to their own. Some role play a character and some folk just zap pixels. Some couldn't give a hoot about story line and other's act out a role in the game.

I just see it as part of the quirkiness of the original game that's being maintained.

It's slightly uncomfortable, but that's a quirk I like. A bit like being murdered by the police for a small fine - that's mad - but let's keep a bit of the madness ;)

ENOUGH ALREADY - its a game people, its a game .. please ...... please -

Now ..... Where's my sweetroll ?

Thanks for reminding us all of that - we need posts like this to keep us all on the straight and narrow. I was under the delusion it was all real.

If it's just a game, there's no point in any of this, so I will end my sentence immedi

Sorry but it is just a game, if it bothers you don't play the game.
Games are just digital escapism, I have played plenty of games where I have done things I never would in real life.

Am I a bad person if I eject canisters of slaves then blow them to bits with stolen weapons while under the Influence of stolen narcotics?

Not in my book.
