Slaw Devices Pedals

Yeah, the slaws definitely look as good as the MFGs. One big factor though is that the MFGs are at least $100 cheaper for a similar build quality/durability. Hard to argue with the all metal build of the Slaws. Although this composite material is apparently just as strong as metal and will probably outlive me anyway, lol. The composite is also feels very nice and comfy on the soles of the feet, warm in the winter, and breathable in the summer. With good traction too.

The deciding factor for me however was the comfort and customizability. The crosswind mfg looks and feel futuristic, and ergonomic, and is almost infinitely adjustable. And bonus points because they feel like they belong on a space ship :)

I don't think anyone would be disappointed with either one. If I ever need another set, I'd probably go with the Crosswind due to the lower price and better availability. I'm really happy I have a BF-109 Slaw as it probably will be something that could be resold without any monetary loss due to the fact that they are not currently available.

I do have 2 accounts, and may be building a second gaming platform in another room, so a set of Crosswinds may be something I go with in the next year or 2. I do remember doing the research when I bought the Slaw device, and it was not an easy decision as they are both such high quality products.

Totally agree, Slaw give you that real feel, and that was important to me, i also play in DCS and FSX/prepar3D and the damper add-on just give you that real feeling :)
but you pay more for the Slaw for sure. They are made in lower numbers and you have to wait a long time to get one.

My BF-109s are fantastic, my chair is a little too high for the Vipers - I doubt my heals would rest on the floor, otherwise I would have gone for those as they look badass. I added the damper to my set of 109's and they feel superb. I also combined the toe break axis but use them for vertical thrust, combined with a self made analog stick addon for my x55 throttle which I use for lateral thrust. Flying and docking is a breeze with every thruster set to analog control!!!

As others have said, Slaw was a real pleasure to deal with and the quality of his workmanship is top notch, I would not hesitate to deal with him again.

Personally, the only reason I went with the Crosswind rather than the Bf-109 was Slaw never responded to my message while MFG send they'd make the Crosswind in "just" a few months. :) Felt kind of cool, being able to say "oh yeah, I had those pedals custom-made for me"... gives me a sort of Elite status that my skill level doesn't merit.

The Vipers do look gorgeous though. Does anyone have them, but not secured? It looks to me that you'd have to secure those, given they are 'heel on floor' pedals, otherwise they'll just slip back away from you.

(As an OT aside: I recall watching a documentary about an accident caused by a pilot switching between two very similar aircraft, except one had 'heel on floor' pedals, the other 'heel on pedal'. He forgot about the difference, and was accidentally applying toe pressure to the pedals, thus applying the brakes as the aircraft began take-off. With speed not increasing as expected and the nose pitching downwards, he throttled up full and pulled back hard on the stick, with minimal effect. Eventually the aircraft just about reached sufficient speed to take-off, then - obviously - pitched upwards violently, stalled and crashed. Moral of the story - don't switch back and forth between the two pedal types, I guess.)

I'm a lucky proud owner of Slaw Viper pedals. What a beautiful piece of equipment. I had owned Saitek Combat Rudder pedals, which are considered not bad, but there is simply no comparison with Slaw product. Viper pedals so much smoother, and have tons of adjustments, they are just on another level. Pedals can be configured to quite strong forces, which is good in my opinion. But to enjoy those harder settings, you really need to attach them to the floor properly (I had bolted mine). Also, if you have some kind of office chair on wheels, I recommend to replace wheels with something like that: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-...psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 You don't want to roll backwards when you push the pedal. I'm flying Elite Dangerous and DCS, where my favorite module is Huey (UH-1H) helicopter, which require very precise rudder control. Accuracy and smoothness of Viper pedals makes my flying so much more enjoyable! And do not forget about possibility to install a hydraulic damper. It gives truly unique feeling, it is hard to describe, but it feels great, I'm really love it.

PS Also, I have a name plate on my pedals, so it is truly custom made just for me :)

Yeah The name plate and serial number is kind of uniq :) I can't wait to receive mine, the damper will be installed toot sweet....
what colour did you get yours in?

Red of course, the same color as my Python :)

Awesome! ordered mine in black, as it fits my dark theme and my warthog :)

But will add a gold damper :D

I've had mine for a month now, and I'll have a full feature review running on Ars Technica shortly—scheduling looks a little funky, but probably next week. After a year with the BF109s, I didn't think I'd ever find better pedals, but the RX Vipers were enough to get me to sell my BF109s.

The build quality is stratospheric, the feel is absolutely perfect, and the axes are absolutely solid and jitter-free. Whole thing weighs about 8kg; with a damper in place (not pictured below, but I've got one on) and tuned how I want it, the activation force on the pedal axis is about 6.5kg to full detent, and the toe brake activation is about 5kg to the stops. And it just looks hella awesome, too.

Will drop a link in here when my review goes up.

Andrej,
Did you end up installing a hydraulic damper? I heard that they will make it feel more like steering an airplane, but I don't know how exactly.

Can you send me a link to the kind of hydraulic damper you used, if you ended up installing one? I'd like to get my hands on my own RX Viper.

Atm. using CH Pro Pedals but want an upgrade. Thinking about MFG Crosswind but Slaw Viper definatly looks interesting.

From posting this thread and until now I received the viper pedals and they are some of the best pedals I've owned.

They do look awesome.
I really like the heel-on-floor design too, as that's how I usually use my t-flight pedals (though they're not the most comfortable in that regard)

Bah! This is reminding me what junk my thrustmaster pedals are. :(
But I just can't imagine dropping $700 on a set of pedals. My wife would surely kill me.

Nice review here, BTW: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/07/new-year-new-500-pedals-reviewing-the-slaw-device-rx-viper/

These pedals are highly prized in the flight-sim community. This Polish guys knows his stuff.

Expensive though and I`m cheap. i`ll stay with my CH Pro.

The CH Pro Pedals work very well but I find these quite uncomfortalbe after 2h flight. The toe brakes are too close to each other.
The heel-on-floor design ot the Straw pedals is what makes me favour the MFG Crosswind.
I had the Saitek Combat Rudder pedals too and didn't like this there.
