SLF patch?

I think the entry in the patch notes that may have bearing is a follows

Networking
  • Fixed issues with ship rubber banding.
  • Integrated Oodle network compression library to reduce network bandwidth.

As to whether this helps with SLF lag we will have to wait and see

I strongly suspect the SLF issues have been related to the more general rubberbanding problem, but obviously this will need to be tested when the patch goes live.

Ok... Forgive my ignorance but what is Oodle network compression?

RAD Game Tool's data compression libraries that compresses UDP and TCP network traffic, apparently with a fairly decent compression ratio and low overhead. Should reduce bandwidth utilization of the game.

I'm doubtful that this will be responsible for resolving the SLF issues as problems seemed to happen even in bandwidth unconstrained scenarios (increased 'MaxUpRate' and high-speed connections). Compression always has some degree of overhead as well, so I doubt it will improve game performance for most people.

Should improve accessability to those with low bandwidth connections or tight data caps and make larger instances more viable, especially when mixing in peers with weaker connections. Might also help with Frontier's servers during peak times.
