I reinstalled my 5E Fighter Hangar module last night after a few months without it and went to buy a fighter to put in it. In the Outfitting at my home port there was a good selection of fighters and as I browsed I saw that they had a Taipan AX1 F which had multi-cannons and a real good spec to go with it but it would not install when I bought it. I tried several times without any luck and ended up buying another of the fighters on offer as a stop gap. Do I need some sort of qualification to buy one of these?. I tried a search here and found two threads on the ax1 but neither answered my question.

What is your home port? AFAIK the AX Taipan, as an anti-thargoid weapon, was intruduced after a community goal's outcome had determined its availability; and like with the other AX weapons we only got to a tier where it's limited to some planetary outposts, of the military type I think. The exception as always should be Shinrarta Dezhra.

Edit: If it's actually available at your station but a bug prevents you from outfitting it, try selling the hangar and buying a new one / re-buying it, this has helped with similar problems concerning the SRV hangar in the past.

5E? I only know of a 5D Hangar, and the AX Taipan works fine.
@pzykozomatik - Are you sure it is just planatery? Am pretty sure it is also sold at any independent station, I didn't get mine from a surface port.

No, I'm not sure. I just had a similar problem to the OP the other day as to finding next to no information about it online, since Eddb and Inara don't let you select availability for fighters. What I wrote is what I distilled from what I'd read/knew, and in the end I think I went to I Sola to get one. Even better if it's like you said.
Edit: It can't be any independent station though since my home port, Ray Gateway in Diaguandri, doesn't sell them.

My home base is in the Artume system around 60ly from Sirius and it is available in the Outfitting menu where I eventually bought another of the options when I could not complete the sale for the AX1. I would click on buy and it made the clunk click noise but the hangar remained empty. I could buy any of the other ships of both makes, just not the AX1 which is why I thought perhaps it needed some sort of qualification in the Empire perhaps.
@777Driver it is a 5D I meant, I have had it in storage for a while while I ranked up to Master as an SLF slows down the ranking system and it is available at my home base which is not a land base but a Coriolis Starport.
Forget what I said about the availability then. As I stated above, I wasn't sure but that's what I assumed from the info I had.
There should be no rank restrictions though. Do try the sell/buy trick, it might help. If it doesn't, maybe report it as a bug. Have you tried outfitting it to another SLF-capable ship, if you own one?

whenever i try it, even with my elite npc pilot, it dies to fast, while in his imperial fighter he almost never explodes

It must have been a glitch or bug which perhaps got fixed in the 3.0.4 update. When I started up after the upgrade I was going to try a sell/rebuy of the hangar module as suggested above but decided to try one more time to buy the AX1-F and it worked that time so alls well etc etc. Thanks for the replies.
