SLI - so does it work or not?

OK VR gurus! I'm confused ... I have read that SLI works & makes things better, I have read that SLI is not supported, I've read that SLI works but makes things worse! Huh?

I'm currently running an MSI Gaming GTX 980 4GB which is fine for my single monitor, but I'm thinking about adding a second one in SLI mode to be able to increase the detail level a bit in my DK2 but is this actually going to work right now? Is it worth it (now or in a few months once the next gen. is out and the prices drop a bit)?

Also, anyone have a feeling for CPU load running ED in VR? Is it higher than for a monitor? I'm currently running an i5-4570 (quad core @ 3.2 GHz) so was wondering if an upgrade there might help?
