Slight change to bass / LFE levels going through mail slot

I am kind of a freak when it comes to audio. I am a total audiophile and am a bit picky, so I may be the only one experiencing this. Not a huge thing.. very tiny actually, but still affects me personally a little bit in the game.

1. My setup
I run a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 headphones, and next to my chair (soon to be under) is a an ED (elemental designes) 12" ported sub pushing 500 watts. It sounds absolutely AMAZING.

2. What's working well
Almost everywhere in the game, the levels I run my headphones and sub sound great. When ships explode there is a nice little rumble and a pop.. engines have a nice little rumble to them, I can hear all the subtleties of the ambient noises and sounds in the stations, etc. Great balance overall.. EXCEPT...

3. Issue
Even though the bass and volume levels sound flawless everywhere else in the game.. going through the mailslot is almost painful. There is such a huge spike in LFE that I have to run my overall levels lower than I would like, just to be able to dock through the slot.

It's a bummer, because getting a nice THUD in your seat when an enemy ship pops is a huge boost to immersion. I GOTTA have my low-end in the games I play

4. Solution
That low end volume level going through the slot just needs to be reduced by 10%-12%, and it would feel a lot more balanced. We would be able to run a sub at a nice high level to bring out the thuds and thumps out in space... without killing our ears and heads going through the mail slot. I understand it is supposed to be a little intense going through... it just seems just a TINY bit out of balance.
