Slight question regarding this game

So I have a slight question regarding this game. I know you can play it online etc many people on one serve doing jobs together all of that jazz.

My question is can you play it while in a single player mode and hop onto the online if you wish? while I like online play I do also like to do my own things without worries of some high level troll using me had target practice. Since when you stuff gets blown up you lose it here. My experiences from eve were not good in this area. I had tried to play whenever i would exit a gate some people would shut me down and say pay them or i go boom and well. Since I was a noob no money and the boom so I got sick of it and went away.

Welcome to the forums!

Yes, currently you can hop between Online and Online Solo (or even Online Groups to play with your own friends) at whim.

What if i play solo with no internet connection, will it automatically update my character progression next time i connect

Q; are you limited to how many ships you can own

Q; is there like an RPG style skills or stats sheet?

Q: can you align yourself to factions if so do we get bonues for that

Any other details anyone wants to add would be cool I'll be reading up ont he forums to see whats what

One thing I don't recall reading about, relating to this topic, is can you share missions with friends?

I'll probably play with a friend when he gets the game. Will we be able to do the same missions - ie combat orientated - or will we need to hope we can both get similar missions in the same region or take it in turns to help the other do a mission each?

right, so I have 2 questions

1) how will Ironman mode differ?
2) Is there currently a way for me to delete my online character? Im stuck the other side of the pill and want to get back to the starter systems and I really cannot (be bothered) find a way back with no money and a <10 LY jump distance.

Thanks if you can answer those.

1) Ironman mode is an online environment but instead of respawing at your last point, if your character dies, they actually die and you'll have to begin again from scratch
2) you should be able to use the "Clear Save" option to restart from the beginning with the Sidewinder and 1,000 credits

So, to summarize for the OP...

Solo Offline: Does not require an internet connection. Cannot switch your character to any other mode. Static universe. Not implemented yet, but coming soon(tm) Will only encounter AI NPCs (duh).

Solo Online: Requires an internet connection. Can switch your character between online modes. Dynamic universe impacted by the actions of all online players. Will only encounter AI NPCs.

Group Online: Requires an internet connection. Can switch your character between online modes. Dynamic universe impacted by the actions of all online players. Will encounter AI NPCs and other players that are members of the same group.

Open Online: Requires an internet connection. Can switch your character between online modes. Dynamic universe impacted by all online players. Will encounter NPCs and other open online players.

Ironman mode: Conditions as for open online with the following additions/restrictions. Will only encounter AI NPCs and other Ironman players. Cannot switch character between modes. If you die, that character is done (can continue playing it as a non-Ironman character if you wish). Not implemented yet, but coming soon(tm)

Ironman is a gametype where you die for good, something like a hardcore mode

Ironman Elite
During commander creation the player may set the "ironman" flag. Ironman commanders can never be grouped with normal commanders. Players can use the same name for both normal and ironman commanders.
Escape pod systems can be damaged and made inoperable (they are still invincible once launched)
Escape pods are disposable: after use, a new pod can be purchased
Escape pods must be manually activated
Failure to use an escape pod permanently kills the commander if the ship suffers catastrophic hull damage (breaks apart)
Permanently killed commanders can be resurrected as a normal commander (no ironman flag), continuing from when they died
Ship warning systems and visual/aural cues activate when the ship nears total operational failure
The commander is not killed by any amount of ship operational failure
Commanders have emergency personal life support which activates in the event of life support failure
Personal life support can only sustain a commander for a limited time, but restocks when the commander is in a breathable atmosphere
If a commander's personal life support runs out the commander is permanently killed

Q; Are we limited to fighter sized vessel only? or can you have biggers one.
No, there's everything from a sidey (small fighter) to a lakon type-9 (massive hauler) at the moment, eventually there will be 25 different ships to fly.

Q; Can you have AI controlled wingman?
I believe this may be part of the DDF, although whether it will make into the first release is anyone's guess.

Q; what exactly do you use for a home base?
Your ship is your home base :)

Q: how detailed are they with your character design wise, if their activities for when your not in ship
You define your own character, there's no levelling up of skills in-game, just you improving your ability to play the game.

Q; are you limited to how many ships you can own
As many as you like, but you can only fly one at a time.

Q; is there like an RPG style skills or stats sheet?
No

Q: can you align yourself to factions if so do we get bonues for that
Yes, and yes.

Q; I failed to follow this game alot, I am a solider and I was deployed for a very long time and busy with the military life so what activities do we have in this game?
Fighting (Pirate/Bounty Hunter), Mining, Trading, Exploration

Q; from what I gathered here you fly around and earn money for better stuff your basically a merc. say I wanted to join the police could I?
You can't join the police, but you can hunt bounties

Q: exactly how big is this universe?
400bn star systems, 100bn currently known/occupied systems

Any other details anyone wants to add would be cool I'll be reading up ont he forums to see whats what

1. There will initially be 25 ships of various sizes available in the completed game.

2. Don't know maybe somebody else can answer that.

3. Not sure what you mean by home base. There are space stations and Outposts in the game.

4. Currently not able to leave your ship. This ability is planned for a later expansion.

5. Currently limited to one ship. This will change with the release of beta 3 at the end of the month.

6. Don't know maybe somebody else can answer that.

7. There will be factions in the completed game.

8. Trading, Mining, Bounty hunting, Piracy & I'm sure there are other that i have forgot

9. You won't be able to join the police but since there were military missions in the previous games then I'm sure you'll be able to join the milirary.

10. 400 billion stars  Its a simulation of the Milky Way galaxy.

I'll try some off the top of my head, but it's best to read the documents in Wavey1's post above. Answers apply to the commercial release (4th quarter 2014 we're told) rather than the current beta.

Q; Are we limited to fighter sized vessel only? or can you have biggers one.
You start with a small fighter, but there are much larger ships, currently the biggest fighting ship is the Anaconda, and there are large freight trucks like the Lakon 9.

Q; Can you have AI controlled wingman?
Not at the moment.

Q; what exactly do you use for a home base?
Your ship is your only home.

Q: how detailed are they with your character design wise, if their activities for when your not in ship
Not detailed at the moment though there are plans for walkabouts somewhere down the line. The game is about you flying a ship.

Q; are you limited to how many ships you can own
No limit I'm aware of, though it costs credits to store and transport your ships.

Q; is there like an RPG style skills or stats sheet?
Only for your ship. You upgrade equipment or get a different ship, so it's not completely unlike RPG. Your actions are also recorded, so if you annoyed some people or made others happy etc, and there are ratings for different activities like fighting or trading.

Q: can you align yourself to factions if so do we get bonues for that
Yes. Cheaper prices, special missions etc

Q; I failed to follow this game alot, I am a solider and I was deployed for a very long time and busy with the military life so what activities do we have in this game?
Offhand - Bounty hunting, piracy, mining, salvage, trading, exploring, looking at the scenery..

Q; from what I gathered here you fly around and earn money for better stuff your basically a merc. say I wanted to join the police could I?
There will be missions that ask you to help keep order in a system or kill crims, but afaik you don't get a badge for policing. You can choose to act like police and be rewarded.

Q: exactly how big is this universe?
400,000,000,000 star systems, give or take a bit. I love that answer.

Any other details anyone wants to add would be cool I'll be reading up ont he forums to see whats what

The Design Discussion Archive (DDA) can answer any questions you may have about the game.

Obviously things like this are easy for people to answer and it isn't worth you going over there and spending half an hour reading but it is worth looking there because you can find literally any details you want about the game.

Here's a link, take a look! :D

I am so glad this game includes Online Solo version of gameplay. Simply amazing as compare to most other games in the current market.
