Slightly dissapointed

All... I realize that everything is subjective. But I wanted to get this off my chest. I am pretty much a solo player and like the bulletin board. However, since Gamma the pickings are slim at best. I have been jumping from settlement to settlement trying to get something that will earn me some credits. So far I have made about 80K, but it was a long drawn out process. I have yet to find anything on the bulletin boards that i am trusted enough to get. My best option so far has been small settlements and only around $4K on average. I think, dangerous, that we may want to look at how this process in general. I am a casual player. I can get on a couple hours every couple days at best. The process to get higher rep to get offers on the bulletin board seems to be slow or unavailable at best.

Now.. I am not beyond realizing I am going about something the wrong way. If this is not the way to go then I am open to ideas. I will say that I was drawn to this with the solo player in mind.. What say you all.. am I off the mark or am I going about this the wrong way...

I believe FD has to find a balance between casual players and hard core players that have unlimited play time. I myself have limited playtime so I feel your pain. But I can appriciate the time it takes to earn credits and get a larger ship to do more and earn more. Once you are able t get int a cobra life changes a lot. You can do just about anything. So I say just have patience.

The BB missions have dried up a bit, I don't really do the cargo runs and the courier runs are now all locked behind the rep barrier, also I haven't found any merc contracts, just the assassination missions where it seems to be nearly impossible to find your target.

I have the same experience, but not the same dissapointment.
Until I am more trusted or have more cargo space I will most likely not be raking in the big bucks. So I went and did something else, exploring with my hauler. And what people leave floating around in space is extraordinary.
Finding a black market is a chore though.
You could go do something else for a bit and see the galaxy before you go back to rep grinding.

youre going about it the right way.
bulletin board contents are random.
you could hang around in the same station for a while and see if new options pop up, but i find it better to just leave if theres nothing, go somewhere else and maybe scan things along the way to get a few pittance before i reach my desired station of choice.

mining wont get you much more money either, and its even more time consuming. so dont bother until you get a much better ship like a hauler.

this always was a time consuming and slow game. in that respect the game follows tradition, which some love because it takes them back to the past where everything was wonderful and rose tinted.
when i go back to the past now i see 5fps, wireframe graphics and time consuming grind.

One thing I noticed, though it could just be luck of the draw and only happened during Beta, is that repeatedly visiting a station to do missions builds up your reputation with the station / faction and in time you get offered better missions. The average payout for some started at around 2-5K and just prior to the wipe they were around 20-50K. (Once though I had a 130K mission to fetch some items - Kerching!)

Maybe some of the more dedicated players will have better information about Gamma ?

It has indeed become a grindy game. Beta 3 was a bit more pleasurable because you could at least sell your starting ship to help pay for the hauler. Now you have to work like a dog earning 2-4K doing delivery missions that average 5 mins flight time each, plus dodging numerous interdictions. Commodity payouts don't make much sense either. The system I started in is metal rich. It has a lot of gold and gallite. Rich people, yet they're low on food and ask you to give it as a donation. Like what? You're rich and trying to play the poor card?

Like you, I'm casual and often only have few hours a week to play. There's a lot of interesting new games out as well and I split my time up between them. All I really want is a fully loaded hauler to go exploring with. Beyond that, everything else in this game is out of my reach, unfortunately.

Visit USS and hope for some rare commodities, then fly to an anarchy to sell them ;)
I only play a few hours a week but staying in one area I am building rep with factions and even having missions alter half way through.

Yeah I must admit it seems a bit odd that every single faction mission pretty much States they don't trust me enough. I can't even deliver a parcel for 600cr. How am I meant to build trust when I can't do even the simplest of missions? Am I missing something?

What I usually do if there are no bounty missions worth undocking for is go looking for trouble. USS's are a nice place to start, flyying around and hoping to get interdicted is another way (some people seemingly can't undock without getting interdicted) and then you can get your own interdictor and start hunting wanted targets... I usually plan to do this for an hour then check the boards again, but then I find some salvage or fight some NPC that poops some cans, then I have to go to my local black market next door, where I then fight more USS's, then I have to dock in that system to get my bounties, then I find more stuff to kill or more salvage.... And then I have spend 2-3 hours without noticing.

Its not super duper profitable, think I made 50k last night this way in a Cobra, but once I get it tricked out a bit more I can take on bigger targets. and get those 20-30k bounties. And the best part is that it is FUN!

And you don't need a Cobra, although it helps, I did the same and had as much fun in my Freeagle.

I built up rep doing trading and killing wanted npc's and slowly got better and better missions. Am now friendly w my choice station. So stick to a system and start building up that rep, that's my advice. Now i have my lovely Cobra and started to explore my surroundings :)

"A casual player"! Ha! Its been what... 5 days and you have 80k. I have about 6k and loved the three times I was able to play. The fun is finding credits in a way you enjoy... not having credits for doing less.

I started in Cosi, and branched out to some neighbouring systems where the pickings were good. I've not moved on and I am doing missions between the cluster and trading also. Some trade runs are fantastic, some are just about break-even. The traffic reports aren't reporting a massive amount of other player-activity, so the market isn't being slammed.

One of the reasons I want to do this is to find out how long it takes to get trusted missions, and when the hell I'll be friendly with anyone.

I've probably put in 20+ hours in this little cluster so far. Am in a Hauler with 12 cargo-space, and have about 300K.
