Slightly odd system not that far from home.

Decided to go on an exploration trip, to hit Elite as explorer and to get the final dough to kit out an Anaconda a bit. The good ship "Betsy" went on one more expedition, this time just wandering the neighbourhood with not much aim.

AUCOFS EH-E B28-0 proved to be a strange one. 4 stars, with a few small clusters of planets. A water world, a few interesting landables, and a terraformable high metal-content world with polar caps orbiting binary stars.

The planets near the main star are metallic, the first one with iron magma. I flew closer to see what that implied.

The world is pretty low gravity, but definitely metal. A bit hot there. Fumaroles were easy to spot in canyons that look a bit like collapse feature. Easy, as in I was probably lucky to fall upon one straight away. The vents spewed green smoke. Crystal clusters yielded polonium.

All very picturesque. And a good spot to turn around at, to head back and get that rank sorted as well as pick up a new ship to play with. Now I'm putting about in the good ship Genevieve, giving good old Betsy a rest.

Good luck with your rise to ---- ELITE ----!

Be sure to post here when you get to that rank. Currently Ranger, 8%, out on a long-haul trip - currently 5.75K Ly from the bubble, furthest I've ever traveled.

Some of the systems you can encounter can be breath taking. I might post some on my return, I always screen shot new systems I've found and might own if I get back in time.

All my ranks are the same level (Dangerous - Entrepreneur - Ranger), my plan is to get all at Elite -1, get them all to 99% then score triple Elite in one weekend... Well, that's my plan!

PS: Grumble, grumble, why do some explorers nip into a system, scan (for example) an ELW then **** off without even scanning any other planets or even the main star? That makes me mad!

Because ELW has traditionally been the prize in exploration, and also pay out around 650K vs say a rocky body that pay out 1K.

Scanning everything to get the discovery tage gets old very fast once you get far enough away from the bubble / usual route where almost every system is undiscovered.

Nice find! This illustrates very well how complex multiple-star systems can be. Sure, many times you only get some stars orbiting a barycenter, and nothing else, but other times, you end up with more interesting stuff.
If you find a complex system, I recommend scanning as much stuff as you can, then uploading the data to EGO and constructing an orrery from it. Visualising the whole system can be quite helpful. Also, while Elite doesn't render multiple light sources (yet?), in such systems you can still end up with planets that have rather complex day-night cycles, and you can see those on the orrery.

OK, it's new to me; I've been exploring for three years, and If I scan one body, I scan them all. Each to their own I guess.

Why should we waste our time on dozens of rock balls worth pennies?
Are we explorers or money scavengers? :p

:)
Not long ago someone complained why people scan everything and leave nothing for the later comers to tag...

.

Is there some reason you can't be both?

The reality of Elite is that planets of the same class have a fixed number of varieties, which you will eventually see all. If you're a surface-feature hunter, then you might spend extra time looking for geysers and fumaroles, or interesting canyons. If you're not, there is little reason to scan every single rock in a system, except for "I like to scan everything". This is one of my gripes about exploration.

There's also the case of "I'm trying to find the largest/smallest/most or least massive" of a particular object. If you also want to do that with the rocky planets (the majority), more power to you, because it's going to be a lot of work. Not for me!

Yes, I am one of those explorers that scan everything, if it is undiscovered, I will go out of my way to scan it, everything must be discovered.....and I do not mind counting coup on other lazy explorers water worlds, ammonia worlds and yes, I have even counted coup on a lazy explorers earth like, and just recently, he jumped in...scanned the sun and jumped out, he obviously did not look at the system map because if he had, he could not miss that shiny blue number 3 planet that was all of 472 Ls from the star, that if it wasn't a earthlike, then it had to be a water world, boy.. was I surprised when I scanned it and found my first coup on an earthlike. So keep on being lazy cause I will count coup on you. I started this exploring stuff kinda late in my gameplay, built up my first account to triple elite with 6 bil in assets and cash, didn't leave a lot of time to really get out and explore. Finally allotted a time to make my pilgrimage to Sag A and decided to join all you other long time explorers and get my name in the stars, so brought on a second account and that will be the dedicated exploration account (don't feel like grinding all the way up like on the first account), but the second account is now Elite in exploration. I currently have just short of 50k first discoveries so far, so I got along way to go to catch up to all the die hard explorers, but check your backtrail and don't let me count coup on you, because this indian giver don't give back...hahaha
