Slow Down Suggestion

I like many others thought that seeing "Slow Down" meant I should be slowing down, when in actuality it means that we're being slowed down by a body (e.g. a planet).

Can I therefore suggest that the text be changed to "Slow-down"? It keeps it short and sweet and IMHO makes it clearer.

:)

Woah, 1 year later and now I know what that really means. not clear at all!

Can I suggest "Mass Restricted" or "Mass Limited" to spell it out, and also hint that it's similar in concept to "Mass Locked". "Slow down" is completely obtuse, I keep mentally screaming at the screen "but I AM slowing down you giant gooseberry of a computer".

I always took this to be the computer telling me that I am going to fast for the nearest gravity well, often an object I am just traveling past on the way to my destination.

You also get slow down when you are going too fast and are near destination. So sometimes it's actually right. But yeah, I agree, it's not clear for new players.

Are you sure? Has there been a statement to that affect? It would actually make sense since I always think to myself, as I go screaming past something on the way to my destination, why are you telling me to slow down you idiot, I am nowhere near my target yet! But then, if it does mean that then what is it telling me when I DO get to my target? I am in the gravity well and slowing down as a result, but do you want me to slow down as well? Dumb computer. Make up your mind.

Actually, what annoys me even more is USS's behaving like a giant gravity well. That makes no sense to me at all - and I am very forgiving when it comes to immersion issues since I feel a lot of it can be made immersive by simply making it work in your mind somehow - but this one does bug me.

I have always assumed it means "slow down" as in reduce speed. It does this near bodies when you are being affected by the gravity well as it assumes as you are near the body you wish to visit the body and are travelling too fast and will overshoot.

Huh, so that's what it means. I kept thinking I was flying towards invisible objects whenever it told me to slow down in the middle of space.

Ah well, now I know. As such, I agree it should be re-named to be clearer.

The annoying part is, by the time the Slow Down warning appears, it's already too late to slow down via the throttle. You either have to veer off or overshoot and circle back.

Does anyone else get this message when getting close to nav beacons or USSs? Do they affect you the same way celestial bodies do with regards to speed?

Can we not just have it as "Aaarghh! We're gonna crash, WE'RE GONNA CRAASSSH!!!"?

The SLOW DOWN alert means the auto-throttle is malfunctioning and trying to send you to oblivion. It's like the cruise control in your car accelerating wildly when you hit the brakes.

It has nothing to do with gravity unless a USS / WSS / SSS in the middle of nowhere has the same mass as a large moon. Somehow I can't see four containers of chemical waste weighing the same as Enceladus. You just need to pitch up or down past thirty degrees to reset the auto-throttle then carry on as per normal.

I've reported it as a bug and provided video to tech support showing the issue, but there seems to be little motivation for them to fix this. I suspect some sort of conspiracy with the flight insurance people to drum up repeat business.

It's not that they're affecting you, it's just that you're coming in at too high a speed to be able to slow down to a safe disengage speed by the time you reach it.

If you keep an eye on the time-to-target reading, and slow to 75% throttle before it drops to 6 seconds, your ship should automatically bring you in at a safe deceleration to drop out once you're in range.

I don't think that's right as I'm pretty sure I also see it when approaching a USS I've targeted, but I'm going too fast to stop at. I agree with others who said that it means you're going too fast to stop at the nearby object, which if massive, will interfere with your FSD, thus reducing your speed.
Is there any official explanation of what this is supposed to be telling us?
