Slow download speeds

I have an issue that I am unable to resolve. I have elite both on steam, and directly from FDev. Steam always updates quickly on update days, usually giving me in excess of 5-25 Mb/s download speeds. The steam version usually updates within 1/2 an hour or so) However, after steam has updated, when I launch the fdev launcher (not through steam, the separate game launcher for my non steam account) my download speeds are NEVER faster than 0.25 Mb/s and it takes FOREVER for the non steam version of the game to update (read this as greater than 5-6 hours for a single gig of update). I've looked at all my computer settings, my firewall settings (Comodo personal firewall), windows firewall settings (even though I have IT off, it still blocks stuff whenever windows decides it wants to block stuff), network settings etc, and yet, nothing explains why ONLY the stand alone fdev launcher, crawls at a stupidly slow download speed. Can anyone make any suggestions to try and improve these speeds for me, because i'd rather NOT use steam.

Same experience. Personally my broadband is very good, but ED launcher is impossible.

I have it on PC and PS4. The PS4 updates within seconds. Whilst the PC takes anywhere between 2 - 8 hours!

I asked FD about transfer to Steam and they said it wouldn’t affect the download speed. They did confirm that the launcher is not perfect and has a number of issues.

I’ve noticed that a number of files FD sent me (exe files and new launcher) all failed to launch because it stated the source could not be read, I had to refresh the download.

My only assumption is that the source server where the data is being obtained from has a very poor connection and can’t cope with the traffic - but I’m no IT cleric, that’s just an assumption based off general guesswork.

Personally I would like FD to stop making the patches mandatory, and let us just keep our buggy versions, the time spent constantly installing this game is seriously eroding my patience, to the point I’ve effectively been locked out of the PC edition for 3 months…

Thankfully ED is not subscription based, otherwise I don’t believe FD could cope.

I am in the uk(London /virgin so I assume one hop to the actual servers physical location AWS Ireland ) I don't use steam for elite although I have it I have never linked accounts
when using the launcher to update takes about half hour usually
it starts appears to freez or not even start sometimes an I just go watch a 45 min show come back its done (obviously a new build may take up to an hour and half)
been that way for me since 2013
your prob has gota be isp or location related imo
(my tip though is find old MS internet explorer 11 open it and reset every thing settings etc to default as the launcher uses it in some way it seems )

In the end it turned out FD found that my issue related to a 'Update Failed for file' error, which they identified as occurring usually when an older installation of Elite Dangerous still has some remnants left behind that are interrupting the download.

This is ironic- since I actually performed a full system scrub of ED.

Anyway the fault obviously is with the launcher, because I asked FD about Steam, and they advised how I can activate my account via this method.

The activation key is available in your FD account and just needs you to login to it.

To my surprise EDH downloaded via steam in record time!

Howdy (that's "Hi" in Amurican;))

I live in New Mexico (USA...just in case). Even before I got an updated laptop over the holidays my time downloading an ED update of any size (apparently) or game version, has never exceeded 3 minutes. I have an "Xfinity" (company name) internet connection (600Giga(bit) speed, not Byte) in a single-family house with E-net cable or WiFi option...I use the WiFi, it's easier to reach:ROFLMAO:.

There are 2 channels on the modem...2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz. I use the 5.0Ghz by myself, everyone (all) else divide up the 2.4Ghz channel. "All else" usually consist of only my wife on her laptop and occasionally my adult son and daughter when they visit (cellphone and such).

I peruse this forum looking for problems I could potentially experience and..... I've actually found quite a few posted "preventative" measures/steps which I've taken stock of (from the knowledgeable, experienced and the more experiment prone folks on here) that have helped me with occasional difficulties as well as posting a few things myself (I hope) have potentially helped others.

On the whole however, I haven't experienced nearly the problems (varied and sometimes numerous) that others have. I do not know if I'm lucky, skillful or just plain oblivious.
I don't usually submit a "bug ticket" unless I notice that a significant number of others haven't mentioned my particular (real...not imagined and repeatable) trouble.

In any event.... this is a GREAT GAME!

Thanks,
Bizz
