Small Craft with Large Jump Range

CMDRS,

Anyone know if any of the potential ship additions to Elite would have those characteristics?

I'm thinking eagle size with slightly less combat maneuverability. I really enjoy the eagle, but I like to move around a lot as well.

Doesn't seem too likely to me, but thought I'd ask if anyone thought this was possible for any future ships.

I know more ships are coming, but I would really like it if FD went crazy with the variety of ships in the future, although I have heard that the 30 or so planned are going to be it. I feel like they could add a ton of variety and re playability with comparatively less effort by consistently introducing new ships. (Forgive the plebian analogy, but something like league of legends does with their new champions introduced at a regular pace.)

What you're asking for is a fighter with extended range. That tends to be a function of weight/size so you're probably out of luck. You can get haulers to jump large distances by fitting lightweight gear but it sucks for fighting. What you want is a Viper, or perhaps the Fer De Lance once it comes out.

Ya maybe the fer de Lance when it comes out, although I thought it was to be significantly larger than an eagle. Could be wrong.

I'm primarily a viper pilot, but I was thinking something with the combat abilities of an eagle with the jump range of an asp. Perhaps the adder does fit this, didn't fly it much.
Maybe I'll give it another shot, although the fact that it looks like a cute school bus doesn't help. =)

I guess what I'm talking about is doing something like an Eagle Mk7 or an Eagle Scout. Use the same base model, add a few visual tweaks, drop it's maneuverability a tick and let it jump 20 light years with a A drive.

With this approach, you could add tons of variety with little more than balancing efforts.
just sayin =)

Hauler for the win!

The Adder is currently the ship you should look at, if you are interested in being combat ready (vs NPCs obviously) with a decent jump range.
If you don't care about fighting, then the Hauler is even better (cheaper and even greater jump range). It's the ship I use to explore, less jump range than the Asp but much more cost effective.

The Fer de Lance could maybe become a bigger Adder.
Same brand and according to lore it's a long range bounty hunting ship.
I personally hope for something with 25ly jump range, one C3 and two C2 hardpoints (the other way around would be even better) and around 32t of cargo space. We'll see!

I thought the Fer-De-Lance is more like a heavy fighter, but it seems it is a multi purpose ship with some strengths in weapons and jump range.
The size looks like lower medium size, like the cobra.

The adder was my ship of choice before going to the cobra. It has decent cargo space for a small ship and good combat capabilities (2 T1, 1 T2 hardpoints). Also it has a much better jump range than the sidey or the eagle from the start.

Personally, I would love to see a ship that can be used for taxi service to go back pick up ships that have been left behind. I purchased a sidewinder for this purpose and accidentally sold my Anaconda. sigh. 14 mil mistake right there.

I would love to see the ability to rebuy the ship which was just sold (like we have for modules)

I didn't realize the eagle could get to 20 lys. Haven't played with one since I've had capital. I'll play around with it and the adder when I get off work.

Just put it together with elite shipyard. Looks like I can get almost 17 on a fully stocked eagle. Not bad.

Still, wouldn't mind something that could be combat capable with a little more jump to it.

I would really like to fly an Adder or a Hauler but their field of view is so restricting. For an explorer ship to be useful, it needs to have a nice canopy view (up, down and sides). The Adder interests me the most since it has 3 Hard Points to work with.
.
I have an Asp and its view is great. I've had a T6 and it has a good view but if an Adder or Hauler had an upgrade to its canopy, I'd jump on it as a low cost, low maintenance explorer/hauler.
.
I read somewhere that canopy upgrades where discussed in the early development stages. It would be one I'd pay for as long as it wasn't too cost prohibitive.

A Lakon t6 outfitted for jumps can do 30 ish ly jumps, and has a few hardpoints. It's not perfect but it is a solid ride
