Small, probably obvious tip - TURN AERO ***ON***

So I've been suffering with my DK2 on my aging GTX660 pc, getting 60fps at best with all graphics settings at Low. (New PC build planned soon!)

I read all the guides and thought I'd followed them all.

Turns out that I had consistently misread - Turn Aero On as Turn Aero Off! I mean ever since Aero was introduced every tweaking guide suggests turning off the Windows Aero effect for best performance. I don't think I've seen Aero for years!

Anyway, I get 50-60fps at best with Aero Off, with Aero On I'm getting 70-74fps.

Just a quick tip for the hard of reading like me!!

Isn't Aero just a theme in Windows. How does turning that on have such a dramatic effect?

Aero apparently forces the desktop to be rendered by the GPU, and thus ensures that applications running in windows (or in borderless windows) have VSYNC running as the GPU may be set for. The puzzle is that while the OP claims that Aero helps him, some others on the net give the actual opposite advice (to turn Aero off). I wonder if anyone here knows the real deal about this (technically, I mean).
