Smaller building grid?

I had a quick look but didn't come across anything about this. Loaded up planet coaster to start a new park today. While working on the entrance came across this

Can you see what I see? Smaller grid?

Was there an update I'm not aware of?

I see you have a 1x1 grid while your setup in the right hand corner says 2x2.
The collums are a 1x1 format so maybe that's the problem? Did you place these first?

This has been available since beta I think (correct me if I'm wrong). You can adjust the grid size and height with the two sliders in the bottom right corner.

It works fine, they are grid pieces but seem to have an 8x grid now, pretty sure it's a bug. You're holding out on us frontier!! [haha]

I've used roof pieces, arches, walls, not even 2x2 items i don't think. Used the split from building button for the 4 towers

i agree but im not sure what i see on the picture.

As GregorBurns pointed out we have the 2m gridsize but besides that there is also always an inner outline and an outer outline.
Can't that be why it looks like there are so many possibility's?

I started a new building with 4m grid. Use the 4m wall for reference

And then 2m grid

Now 8X grid

I worked out how to do it, you can just build the roof trim within your building and it makes the grid smaller, screenshot below. Can't believe I only just noticed this!

is this a glitch or is it intentional? I hope its not something that gets "patched" like the ability to advance rotate walls

What are the steps needed to reproduce this? You haven't explained how you did it.

Edit - okay I see now. This was possible in the alpha stage using column pieces, but then they took that exploit away.

Nice discovery. Which begs the question, why isn't this more generally available? Maybe it's something they intended to get rid of entirely but missed a spot?

I hope they don't remove it. I'm hopeful that it goes the way of the half grid. It was initially only available by placing one of the sandstone tower pieces and then an alpha update gave us grid options.

Very cool, I didn't even know a 1m grid existed. I don't see them removing this, I just would love to see them add it to the options.

Just tried this and it works. Also found that you can delete the 1m roof trim piece and the grid stays small and you can continue to buildon this grid. Amazing

Update. If you leave the building and then return to it to edit it further you will have to place the roof trim piece again, but you can immediately delete it and still have the small grid.

Just place it inside the building, and not delete it. The grid stays when you return to the building. Why delete it at all?

This is where I think that 1m and 2m width walls would come in handy. Sure, you can make the grid smaller and merge scenery pieces together, but a 1m wide and 2m wide wall would be useful.
Then you should be able to place 4 of the 1m wide walls along each side of a 4x4 grid if you wanted smaller slices of wall.
