Smart decision?

With the arrival of aliens imminent, this thought came to mind.

Note, I still don't care about aliens, but my idea here is simply to counteract any troubles I may find myself in.

My intention is to buy a Sidewinder, and use module storage to keep various pieces of equipment at the ready, for different jobs. (SRV hangar, scanners, etc.)

If aliens push me into financial difficulties, which I appreciate is entirely possible, then I want to be able to store my Cobra Mk III, my main ship, and switch to a significantly cheaper vessel to gain credits again, likely through data transport or rares.

The Sidewinder's long distance performance will be boosted passively in 2.2 by the fact we can filter routes to only use FOG KBAM systems. The Sidewinder will be a much more viable ship this way.

So is this idea good? What do you think?

Essentially I was thinking of something similar.

Except using my Python instead of my Anaconda.

Suppose it's all relative to what we have. :)

I've only 15 million so I'm hardly going to look at even medium ships, let alone large.

I think, the more the market keeps tanking with doomsday predictions, the more I load up on Core Dynamics stock, preferred.

I found something called Witcher 3 Wild Hunt with lots of DLC that is a real beautiful game, dont have to get care of PvP, or PvE, or aliens. Meanwhile, from time to time, I'll read this forum to see if anything new appeared in ED, or they change the bad RNGineers mods.

I think it's not a bad idea to switch to a smaller ship during the first days of a major update. Just to try and see... when things go south, wait for the community to report and FD to adjust it before getting back into your favorite expensive ship.

(Is that a troll above me? My ignore list is hungry)

Indeed. We have no idea what's what with 2.2. Best to learn with a cheap ship.

I reckon I have enough for an Eagle Mk II, so I'll probably buy back one of those too.
In all seriousness, I have a feeling if you take that cobra and put in even a modest effort in all the Community Goals betwixt now and the alien's arrival, you will be sitting on a lot bigger monetary cushion by then.

You are right about the route filter. I expect to dust off some of my shorter range craft once this is in because I don;t need to be afraid of running out of gas.

A more serious concern is - Are Frontier putting the Fuel Rats out of business?

Confirmed: The emblem was compensation.

Small ships are fun, so it's not a bad idea per se. But I wouldn't stick to a Sidewinder or Eagle, but rather take a look at the Cobra, Diamondback Scout or the iCourier. The iCourier is what I use a lot. I have a number of more expensive ships outfitted and even Engineer-upgraded, including a Python and FDL, but I just can't stop returning to the iCourier. It's just so much more fun to fly and still can do many roles. (Its only drawback is that due to its low number of internal slots you often have to refit it on the fly to be able to do another task. That is fine, but some modules are not available everywhere. Luckily module storage and transfer should fix this problem. :) )
.
Also note what others have said, just participate in one or another Community Goal and you should have a good financial buffer, allowing you to use one of the better low cost ships.

I'm kinda planning the same.

Similar to V2.1 release - head out 1st in smaller Ships and "Test the Waters".
But arguably, monitoring the Forum should do the trick just fine.

I don't expect all hell breaking loose the very 1st Hyperjump right after my Client updated to V2.2 and i.e. I might run my very 1st Passenger Mission in a mighty Orca :D

I do, however, plan to disperse my parked Ships over a bigger area though.
I got that nagging feeling that keeping all "eggs in one basket" might not be the best choice anymore.
So far, Stations are non-destructible. With possibly big game-changers coming up, I'm not so sure about that percieved safety anymore. Those easy Ship transfers might end up not just being a nice convinience - but a necessity.

Seriously? FD thinks that the new routing filters kill the Fuel Rats? I have my doubts. A lot of the Fuel Rats business is based on pilots making bad calls, misjudging stuff or being stupid. I have high confidence, that we won't run out of people meeting those parameter, so there'll always be plenty of work for the Fuel Rats. Without the sarcastic tone: isn't helping people who made avoidable mistakes exactly what the Fuel Rats are doing? (And hey, at some time as a new pilot, i could also have used their service, just unfortunately fuel transfer limpets did not exist yet.) So as long as it is possible that mistakes are being made, it will be done and the Fuel Rats will have work to do.

It's just a joke, at least my line was, anyway.

My strategy has always been to fly the ship that I won't die in. Speed is king, so I guess it all depends on how fast the Thargonauts are in their roachmobiles.

We shall see...

Seriously?
Never really, unless I explicitly say so.
