Smeaton is dead. 465,000cr

LOL. Mate, I was just shooting the breeze. I was bored on a train. I don't really have a point.

I take it that you haven't been up Ben Nevis? The top is usually in the clouds. You do get a great view sometimes but no one goes up by helicopter. Sometimes people are rescued by them though.

I do know someone who flew to the top of Machu Picchu in a helicopter. He hates walking. :)

Haha fair enough. Was the train going up a mountain? :D

I haven't ever been up Ben Nevis by the way; despite the fact that I'm British, I've been to America but have never crossed the Scottish border. Not due to some principled objection to going there, I've just never got round to it.

Want to find other possible route giving plenty of rewards? -

1. Go to https://eddb.io/station?l=30&i=1 and then click on the arrival distance column to sort by longest first. I Have already told it to show only stations with Large pads.

2. Pick a station off that list and just travel to it without any missions, inventory or passengers. For safety's sake, I would make sure all bounties and fines are cleared as well. When you get to the station, look at its mission board. It will list all the systems that the station is trading with. Make a note of these. Also, check the BGS status of the controlling faction. A controlling faction in War, civil war, unrest, outbreak or famine WILL NOT attract passengers for it.

3. Go to each system in turn, and land at one of the stations. Look through their boards, both passenger and mission. Also, again, bear in mind the status of the factions.

What you are ideally looking for is two systems trading both in "boom" with the "sending" station shipping Boom Data missions. For a long distance station, each one of these boom data runs is worth 500K until allied, when it will go up to 600-800K each.

You should be able to find passenger missions worth 1-3M as well. Even in this method, your maximum take home is about 10M an hour. I Have a route I stumbled upon that is doing this in the empire, but will not say where.

Also, that list is only sorted by large pads. You could change it to show M pads as well. My current run is from an outpost to an orbis with a run distance of 9 ly.

I enjoyed the Smeaton run because it was fun.

. . . Yes, I hear the gasping and the self righteous indignation. I know that some people don't accept that something that they don't enjoy could possibly be enjoyable to others. Others seem to just be appalled by the idea that a person would play a game for such a trivial purpose as . . . fun.

I was generally hitting between four and six stations to load my Python with passengers, being interdicted several times in each transit. All the while keeping a sharp eye on how much mission time I had left. Then there was the long run, yes it gave me some reading time, all the while keeping a bit of my attention focused as I was frequently pulled out of super-cruise.

Oh, yes, the pay outs. Finally there was a way for non-combat players to earn enough to be able to have a balance that would enable those players to enjoy the game instead of worry about the constant credit grind. I was able to go to burning stations and not worry about that opportunity cost of those poorly paying runs. Frankly, I was able to have enough reserve to simply enjoy the game.

If I had a satisfying reserve, than why did I go back t Smeaton and make a few more runs?

Because I found it to be fun.

I wanted to try the Allen Hub/Smeaton Orbital run in the beta, but my allied status was too recent to make it into my beta game state. So I went to my regular Barr Survey/Searfoss Enterprise route and ran it instead. Here's what I found.

Payouts are greatly reduced.
Passenger numbers per mission, however, are up. I was able to half-fill my Anaconda on my first visit to the passenger lounge.

My first attempt at board-hopping failed - I was told that no more missions were available - leading to a long delay filling my Anaconda and distorting the figures I got from my first run. I thought perhaps they'd nerfed board-hopping, but I now think they've just started blocking it when the mission servers overheat, because:

On the second run I was able to board hop, and was able to fill my Anaconda in one cycle of:

Solo - Open - Private Group - Solo.

From start to gear up took four minutes. No more 20-30 minute board-hopping sessions.

At Searfoss Enterprise, after unloading my passengers, I was able to pick up nearly a full Anaconda's worth for the trip back to Barr Survey without board-hopping.

Total loop time: 40 m 26 s.

Total earnings Cr 14,818,479

Which equates to roughly Cr 22,250,000/hr.

not the Cr 70,000,000/hr I was making, but not chicken feed either.

If the same reduction ratio applied to Allen Hub/Smeaton Orbital, we'd be looking at payouts of roughly 62 million/hr. But I doubt it'll be that much.

Based on the missions I saw at Allen Hub, and reports from other players, I'm guessing the final figure for the Smeaton Orbital run will be on the order of Cr 27-35 million/hr.

If so, then I still have an adequate cash cow one day a week to fund my play the other six days, and will be quietly pleased.

Exactly.

Have some rep.

I can think of at least 4 ways to reliably make over 50MCr/hour without mode switching which are completely unaffected by this change. A couple of them might make 80+. They mostly require more skill than Smeaton, but nothing close to the "fight a Thargoid solo" level, and none of them require anything more fancy than a D-rated Conda to get full benefit. Two of them could be done pretty well for slightly reduced profits in a Python or T-7. One of them doesn't involve the mission board at all and has worked without changes since 1.3 ... though is probably the lowest paying of them on average.

(No, I'm not going to write the step by step instructions down here. Waste of effort. If people have missed the several other times they've been mentioned on these forums and elsewhere over the last few weeks, they'll miss this one too. Do your own research.)
Well, I've noticed your post, would you care to tell? Maybe I'm not the only one, why do you think bad of people? :D Would be interesting to know more intersting ways. I've already read more known tutorials (presentations by the Disney princess fans, some older trading guides, etc.). Searching usually returns more common stuff like you are complaining, like older Robigo runs, rare trading, etc. So, would be good to know more "clean" (if you will) methods. I was glad when I accidentally stumbled into a post about state dependent trading for example.
