Smooth Coaster Banking Idea!

The coaster builder is great so far, but the banking can be a tough obstacle to overcome in trying to make something realistic. It starts and stops in each track piece, making it hard to do things like long over-banked turns and custom inversions etc. I've seen some other comments too that their tracks look wobbly and the smoothing option doesn't always fix the problem they way they want it.

I think a way to improve the banking would be to add a continuous roll option that extends the banking to the end of the track piece through the beginning of the next piece. That way, you could twist the track over multiple sections instead of it leveling off mid-turn. At the end of the bank, uncheck the continuous roll and the end of the track will stop banking like it does now. This would allow for a lot more control on unique elements in coasters and we won't have to rely on smoothing as much to get the shape we want.

If anyone here has played Nolimits 2, this would be like strict/non-strict roll option instead of strict being always on.

You can do this now by using the bank tool is small increments per piece. You start the bank with 11 degrees on a longer entrance track piece and then use shorter pieces to bank it more until you are at the desired banking for the turn. I have no issues with making smooth banking in the game.

This is already in the game first make the overbanking turn just by degree, then select the whole overbanking turn you like the adjust with the smooth tool, then try adjusting the banking with turn button. Angle snap must be OFF. Good Luck

They really need to fix the coaster smoothing and banking options. It limits the quality of coasters you can make. It's like the game plays with being a "realistic" coaster builder, but the current tools and behaviors of them cause it to fall short and just irritate the crap out of you. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to make a long gradual banking swoop/curve/bat-wing without nit picking every foot of the track. They got the system started to make this thing awesome, but it is definitely falling short in its current state and needs a TON of tweeks. I absolutely hate how the the angle you choose to bank the track never fluidly connects to the pieces you use after to come out of the bank. The smoothing option is always a 50/50 chance of smoothing one area and making the next un-manageable. Also, the already designed inversion/banking elements are so poorly designed and don't resemble realistic coaster elements at all, half of them they are just elementary stabs at best that are far from fluid in design.

One thing I find annoying with the smoothing tool is that when you select a portion or the whole banked curve or helix is that it shrinks it instead of just smoothing the track. There should be an option just to smooth if you want.
If you keep pressing the smoothing tool you'll end up with a curve that is just a fraction of the original size.
It seems like it ignores that there is track before and after the end of the curve.

I do agree with that statement. It will reduce the size of the turn to smooth it out. Not sure how it works (the smoothing tool) but its almost as if it is trying to connect the 2 points at the end of the selection... I wish it would just smooth out the banking transitions. its even worse on inversions! lol

And if you have a banked sloped curve the smoothing tool tries to level the lower part with the higher part.

The smoothing tool does help a lot, but the problem is that it moves the whole track and not just smooths the banking, which usually makes turns tighter and hills less intense in the process. It would be a lot easier to smooth banking on the fly so you have more control over the track. Like I said though, the coaster builder is pretty good as it is so far though.
