Smooth Tool Enhancement

A lot of us are talking about how good the smooth tool is but also about how hard it still is to make a smooth coaster. I have an idea for improvements to make the smooth tool perfect. Instead of a button that makes a slight change that we wind up hitting a hundred times, it should be a slider whose lowest setting is what we have now and whose highest setting is something like 15 hits, or possibly even "max" as I'm sure there's a point past which things just can't get smoother. It should also show the effect it would have on the track before you "click" it into place. There's a lot of talk about this tool around the forums but I didn't see it all in one place in this subforum and I think it would be great to have everything summarized all together. What are all your thoughts?

I don't really understand how it works enough to give an opinion, but your idea sounds like it would be better. Hopefully smooth will improve next alpha

The problem I have with that is that pressing the button 5-10 times takes about 2 seconds. Changing the slider and then clicking the button would literally take the same amount of time, if not longer.

And when you've used the depumper on NoLimits 2, you'll understand how quick the smooth tool on PC is.

I disagree, sometimes I'm clicking the button over and over and over...and the difference here is that a slider would give you an instant visual representation of what's going to happen so you can adjust on the fly and see a bit more easily what it's doing to banking rather than not noticing that the banking is gradually disappearing, for example. Or if you're doing something like that awesome custom Immelman someone else posted in another thread, you can move the slider to quickly see if you're on the right track as far as your general shape, then perhaps not implement that smoothing before adjusting a few things.

With a visualisation of what'd it look like, maybe that'd work, but with the ability to undo anything instantly it isn't something that I think needs adjusting. I reckon it'd still take just as long and be equally as good.

For the banking, though, you can just smooth a section out and fix the banking afterwards.

Also, because it's kinda funny:
"I don't really understand how it works"
"Casiquires idea makes sense to me"
*facepalm*

See though, just because an idea isn't something you feel like you need, there's no reason to say it shouldn't be explored for the sake of others in a way that wouldn't cause you any more inconvenience. There is a nice sprinkling of comments about the smooth tool out there so I don't feel that my opinion is a fringe position.
